Our tireless volunteers served 812 families (2,406 individuals) in August. 13% of these are new families – those who we have never served before. This seems like an indicator of things to come, as the financial impact of the COVID crisis continues to be felt. We are preparing for an even busier September. Thank you, as always, to our team of volunteers without whom we could not do what do.
Northern Community Food Security Team. TAMFP is a member of the Northern Community Food Security Team (NCFST), a regional organization of food pantries, community gardens and those involved in ensuring food security in Northern Wake County. We’re proud to announce that NCFST has been awarded grant funding from Wake County to form a Community Food Hub, which will supply federally-subsidized food to food pantries in North Wake County.
TAMFP will serve as a distribution partner for the NCFST Community Food Hub. In partnership, we’ve expanded our open hours to include the 2nd Saturday of each month. To serve the addition families which we expect via this partnership, we seek your help. If you are interested in volunteering, particularly on the 2nd Saturday, please contact Sandy Matthews.
CROP Hunger Walk. This annual event supports ending hunger locally and around the world. This year’s walk will take place on Sunday, September 27th, at 2 p.m. Because of COVID-19, the event will not be a large group gathering, but rather a series of smaller teams of walkers. The TAMFP team will meet at TAMFP on East Holding Avenue and walk a one-mile circuit through downtown Wake Forest. We’d love for you to participate and wear your green TAMFP T-shirt. Register HERE and indicate that you are a member of the TAMFP team. Then, email Dennis Beemer to let him know to look for you on the 27th. Then reach out to family and friends and ask them to sponsor you as a CROP Hunger Walker. Dennis can be reached at 630-319-1155 for additional information.
Stop Hunger Feed Hope 2020. We’re moving our annual fundraiser online! We are preparing an exciting assortment of items with which we’ll be holding an online auction in October. Look for an announcement as we get closer to the date. It won’t be quite the same as our annual in-person get-together, but will still be a lot of fun.
If you are able to help, we gratefully accept monetary and food donations. Check HERE for a list of our most needed items. They can be donated at TAMFP or at one of our community drop-off locations. We accept monetary donations online. And don’t forget that you can order from our Amazon Wishlist – donated items are delivered directly to us.
As always, on behalf of the families which we feed, thank you for your support. Together, we #StopHungerFeedHope in our community.
