Apply now for town boards and commissions

You can make a difference in our community by applying for an upcoming vacancy on a Town advisory board. The boards were established to give residents input into what happens in the community and advise the Board of Commissioners (BOC) on matters that affect citizens and their town government.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, Sept. 30, for appointments to the following boards and commissions:

  • Board of Adjustment (BOA)
  • Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)
  • Human Relations Council (HRC)
  • Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Advisory Board
  • Planning Board
  • Public Art Commission (PAC)
  • Technology Advisory Board (TAB)
  • Urban Forestry Board (UFB)

Area high school students (grades 9-12) are also invited to apply to serve as representatives on every board, except the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment.

Beginning September 1, the online advisory board application will be available on the Town website at http://bit.ly/TOWFAdvBoardApplication.  Anyone interested in applying for an advisory board should note the following:

  • Residents who reside in the Town and its ETJ are needed to fill seats on the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment.
  • Candidates for the Planning Board and Board of Adjustment (BOA) will be introduced to the BOC during its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Appointments to the Planning Board and BOA will also be announced during this meeting.
  • All candidates for the HPC must reside within the jurisdiction of Wake Forest. Individuals who reside in the Historic District and professionals with historic preservation expertise are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates are encouraged to attend the October meeting of the advisory board to which they applied to introduce themselves to the current members and explain why they wish to serve. Following these interviews, each advisory board will review its slate of candidates before submitting its recommendations to the BOC. The BOC will announce the advisory board appointments during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 19. New terms will commence in January 2025.
  • Selected applicants for all boards, will volunteer for three-year terms, unless unexpired terms are being filled and advise the board on a variety of topics relating to the Wake Forest community. Planning Board and Board of Adjustment ETJ members shall serve a two-year term.
