Surprise word came Wednesday (today) that Marla Akridge, president of the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce, has accepted a position in another state. She was selected to head the local chamber in November of 2009 after a national search. She and her husband, Ron, moved here a little later that year.
“Yes, Marla has resigned. She has accepted a position as the Executive Director of the Alleghany Highland Economic Development Corporation in Virginia. Her last day will be November 6,” Mayor Vivian Jones wrote in response to an email request.
“I am disappointed to have Marla leave Wake Forest but this will be a great opportunity for her and I certainly wish her the very best. She has done an outstanding job for the Wake Forest Chamber and for the Town of Wake Forest in our economic development efforts. It will be difficult to find a replacement with the experience and expertise she possesses.”
