Adult fitness classes offered

Beginning in mid-September the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will offer a variety of morning and evening fitness classes for adults of all health and conditioning levels.

On Mondays, from Sept. 14 through Oct. 19, the PRCR will offer “Core Strengthening with Pilates” from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St. Since all movement originates from the core, having a strong core helps us move more easily and efficiently. Pilates is now the most recommended form of exercise to help with lower back issues. By strengthening the core muscles you can help alleviate lower back and hip pain.

On Tuesdays, from Sept. 15 through Oct. 20, the PRCR will present “Yoga for Everybody” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Alston-Massenburg Center, 416 N. Taylor St. If you are curious about why yoga has received so much positive press about the potential benefits, this is the perfect opportunity to give it a try. The class will be taught so all levels from the beginner to the seasoned practitioner can participate.

The PRCR will offer “Gentle Yoga” at the Alston-Massenburg Center on Wednesdays from 10 to 11:30 a.m. beginning Sept. 16 and running through Oct. 21. Each session will focus on the therapeutic benefits of yoga. The class will be especially beneficial for anyone with limited mobility or injuries or those seeking a gentler practice.

The cost for each five-week session is $72, and the instructor is Sunny Davis. A Yoga and Pilates instructor and fitness consultant, Davis has over 30 years’ experience teaching at local, national and international levels.

Pre-registration is required for each class at which time full payment is also required. Both online and walk-in registrations are available. For complete registration information, visit wakeforestnc.gov and search for “Registration” or call 919-435-9560.

A complete listing of youth and adult classes, including descriptions and cost, is available on the PRCR website and in the September 2015 edition of RecConnect. RecConnect is available online at www.wakeforestnc.gov/recconnect.aspx.
