Frederick J. Martin

Frederick J. Martin, 90, of Raleigh passed away Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born March 22, 1928 in Chazy, New York, a son of the late Floyd and Mary (LaPoint) Martin.
A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, 2018, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church. Inurnment followed at Pine Forest Memorial Garden.
Fred served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Harris Corporation in civil service at Plattsburgh Air Force Base as assistant branch chief and government contracting officer. Fred enjoyed fishing, golfing, target shooting, and skiing and had a love for traveling, the ocean, and camping. He was known as Mr. Fix It and most of all a family man.
Fred was predeceased by his twin brother, Frank Martin, and his son, Frederick James Martin.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy (Tellstone) Martin; his children, David Alan Martin and Scott Andrew Martin; grandchildren, Aric Scott Martin, Amy Lynn Thurston and her husband, Brian, Ashley Marie Buraglio and her husband, Jeff, Heidi Amelia Martin, Callum Burns Martin and Duncan Joseph Martin; great- grandchildren, Mia Marie Thurston and Jared Lee Thurston; his brother-in-law, Joseph Tellstone and his wife, Shirley; and cousins and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Fred’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of one’s choice.

Tara Bliss Hatley

Tara Bliss Hatley, 49, of Wake Forest passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, after a valiant and brave battle with cancer. She was born to Carolyn Bliss Hatley and the late Eddie Luther Hatley on April 5, 1969.
In addition to her mother, Tara is survived by her beloved daughter, Hallie Bliss Barnes; brother, Edward Hatley; his wife, Dee; and two nephews, Calvin and Zane. She also leaves behind a lot of caring relatives, extended family members and devoted friends.
Tara attended Wiliam G. Enloe High School in Raleigh before attending Guilford College in Greensboro. Tara worked in the radiology department for Rex Healthcare in Wakefield since 2009 and she particularly enjoyed her close relationship with co-workers.
Tara had a particular love of words, music, dance and the arts. Tara was immediately recognizable by her astonishingly beautiful smile and the bright spark for life and adventure that she shared with everyone. Spending time with family and friends was one of Tara’s greatest joys. She grew up spending holidays with her much-loved Aunt Bo (Marilyn) and extended family in Iron Gate, Virginia.
The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for Tara over the last five months, especially the amazing staff at Rex Hospital’s fifth floor and the entire oncology team. A celebration of Tara’s wonderful life was held Sunday, July 8, 2018, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Bright Funeral Home.

Helen Gertrude Nealeans Crow
Raleigh
Helen Gertrude Nealeans Crow, 102, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family. She was born to the late George James Nealeans and Sydney Browning Simmons Nealeans of Birmingham, Alabama. She lived in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Raleigh, North Carolina before settling in Goldsboro, North Carolina. She attended Goldsboro High where she met the love of her life, Ekron Cheslun Crow Jr. They were married November 12, 1939 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in Goldsboro. They were married 39 years.
She is survived by her son, Ekron Cheslun Crow III and wife, Betty Faye Allen Crow; grandson, Ekron Cheslun Crow IV and wife, Sara E. Crow; great-grandson, Ekron Cheslun Crow V (Quinn); nephews, Emmett W. (Chuck) Williams, Drew B. Nealeans and wife, Melva, Alan Nealeans and wife, Karen of NC; nieces, Joyce Culpepper and Susan White of Georgia; and other great-nephews and great-nieces and great-greats. She will be truly missed by neighbors and friends.
Helen was a loving and dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to many during her long life. She prayed for those of family and others daily and will truly be missed by those who loved and knew her. She was a Christian who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Helen was a charter member of the Captain Samuel A. Ash United Daughters of Confederacy, member of the Caswell Nash Chapter of the Daughters of the America Revolution, Clan Ross America, Hayes Barton Baptist Church, Modern Lydia/TMT Sunday School Class, and attended Tuesday morning Bible study.
She was related to many of the old families of the South and country: Simmons, Rutherford, Morel, Bourguin, Tennille, Bullock, Roosevelt, Washington/Curtis, Lee, Bryan, Mordecai, Lane, Edmundson, Devereux, Polk, Pollock, and Ash, Churchill, Spencer and General Nathaniel Greene.
Graveside burial was held at Tuesday, July 10, 2018, at Willowdale Cemetery in Goldsboro.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Hayes Barton Baptist Church, 1800 Glenwood Ave, Raleigh, NC 27608. The family will receive friends after the service.

Connie Mishoe Heath Bledsoe

Connie Mishoe Heath Bledsoe, 72, left this earth peacefully on July 6, 2018. She was born to Elva Mae and George Chappelle Heath on April 10, 1946 in Tarboro. Connie spent her childhood and high school years on the Neuse River in New Bern. After finishing New Bern High School, she graduated from Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh with a business degree.
While in Raleigh she met and married William Patterson Bledsoe of Fayetteville. Most of their married life was spent in Fayetteville. Connie was a teacher’s aide for 27-plus years at Seventy First and Lloyd Almond elementary schools. She was very active in Village Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir and involved in many aspects of the youth program. Connie loved painting and crafts. She also loved spending time at the coast, either the Neuse River or the beach. Connie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong Christian faith and a great love for her family and her many friends. She will be greatly missed.
Connie is survived by her husband of 47 years, William Patterson Bledsoe; her two sons, Ashley Neal Bledsoe (Jennifer) and Jason Talmadge Bledsoe (Summer); and three grandchildren, Christopher Ryan Bledsoe, Layton Heath Bledsoe and Eden Mae Bledsoe. Connie is also survived by her mother, Elva Mae Heath of New Bern; brothers, George C. Heath Jr. (Becky) of New Bern, William Cooper Heath (Wenna) of New Bern; and sister, Helen H. White of New Bern and Raleigh. There is also a large extended family including many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, George C. Heath.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Village Baptist Church of Fayetteville. Visitation with the family will follow the service at the church at 2 p.m.

- Crystal Catlett, 64, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, July 5, 2018. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Mildred Morris Catlett and Rommie Epp Catlett, Sr.
Crystal’s memorial service was held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, July 7, 2018, at the Richland Creek Community, Rommie E. Catlett, Jr (Christine) of Warrenton, Virginia and W. Morris Catlett (Pam) of Cary; her aunt, Agnes Lowery of Wake Forest. Also surviving are Richard Shannon Perkinson (Caitlin), Brianca Eason, Meredith Boone (Frank); and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

Linda DeMent Watson, 70, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. She was born April 10, 1948 to the late John Raymond Cash and Anna Marie DeMent.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ken Watson.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018, at Youngsville Town Cemetery.
Linda is survived by her son, Charles “Buddy” McGhee; a granddaughter, Bonnie Marie (Bobby) Creech; a great-granddaughter, Brooklynn Creech; three aunts, Margaret Schepp, Betty Wrenn and Lib DeMent; and her faithful and loving companion Medicine Bo.
