Brief Bits

This is the readers’ edition of Brief Bits. The owners of the popular Page 158 Books in the Renaissance Plaza on Brooks Street, David and Suzanne Lucey, plan to open a second store in the popular Wine and Beer 101 on Main Street in Wendell some time in July. The Wendell bar and store opened about two years ago in what probably were two old stores now connected though the floor levels are different. If you prefer your wine, beer or cider in glasses then take your own because they serve in plastic glasses only. No dishwasher, just BYOG.

Matt Hale, who most people in Wake Forest know as a versatile architect, is now a published author. His book, Leave of Absence, listed by Amazon in both women’s and romance categories, is available in the Kindle store at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DLV675T.

The “paperback on demand” version will also be online at Page 158 Books very soon for those who like to hold a print book.

It is family venture because his daughter, Kat, a digital art director in Chicago, designed the cover for the e-book and is working on the complete wrapper – front cover, spine and back cover – for the paperback edition.

David and Suzanne, please sign me up for one of the paperback versions.

Ground will officially be broken Friday, June 15, for the Northern Wake Senior Center, and construction by Focus Design Builders will begin later this month. The ceremony will be held at the center on East holding Avenue at 10 a.m. with a brief program followed by a reception with light refreshments.

The programs and activities were moved to scattered sites throughout the Wake Forest community early last fall when architect Matt Hale told the Wake Forest Town Board he expected construction to start in late October.

The town has purchased additional land on the east side of the current site to allow for 50 new parking spaces and a new entrance/exit on the extension of Brooks Street during the construction of the Renaissance townhouses now underway. There will be a new entrance vestibule, a new roof, and additional exercise and multi-purpose rooms. Construction will be complete in the spring of 2019.

The total cost is about $4 million with funding from the bond referendum approved by voters in 2014.

  1. Hey Carol,

This is Greg from Over the Falls. I think the North Wake Senior Center cost is 4 Million not 14.

Come check out our new breakfast on the weekends! Cheers!
