David Michael Lenhart
Durham
David Michael Lenhart, “Ranger Dave,” 66, of Durham passed away peacefully at WakeMed Hospital in Raleigh, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, May 24, 2018.
He was born September 20, 1951 to Gladys Lenhart and the late Michael Lenhart of Birch Run, Michigan. He graduated from Birch Run High School in 1969 and married the love of his life, Pamela Woolworth, on June 29, 1974 at Bray Road Baptist Church.
David served his beloved country with great passion for two years in the U.S. Army as well as many years in the Army Reserves. He was working at Dixie Tool in Bridgeport, Michigan at age 22, when he trusted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He went on to graduate from Flint Bible Institute, and taught there for several years, where he learned to rightly divide the Word of God. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Detroit Baptist Theological Seminary and was ordained as a minister of the Gospel.
He served his Lord faithfully in the churches he was part of, teaching Sunday School classes, loving people as deacon and elder, leading and serving in many ways. He served for a time as the English-speaking pastor at The Korean Church of Ann Arbor, and later helped start the New Community Baptist Church in Flint, Michigan. Most recently, he helped start his beloved Southbridge Fellowship in Raleigh with his daughter and son-in-law, where he has poured his heart out connecting people to Jesus.
David retired from General Motors in Flint, Michigan after 31 years, and for the last 12 years he worked with his son-in-law and daughter at their business, Budget Blinds in Durham. He worked as both installer and manager, but it was all just an excuse to meet more people, turn them into friends, and invite them to church at Southbridge.
Somehow between all his hard work and constant service, he still found time to play hard. David had a passion for playing softball. He loved his teams so much, and his family loved that he became 18 again whenever he stepped on the field. He loved traveling to Hawaii, St. Croix, Grand Cayman Island, and Carolina beaches with his sweetheart. He enjoyed golfing, especially when raising money for a charity. He had a lifelong passion for hunting, and in the last decade he enjoyed many trips to hunt up north or out west with his boys. He sure loved his hunting buddies. He led more men’s groups and small groups than we can count, and each person in his groups became family to him. People were his greatest treasures, and he never met a person he didn’t consider an automatic friend, even if he had to work his way in.
David is survived by the family he spoiled and cherished. They include his dear wife of over 43 years, Pamela Lenhart, whom he loved more than anyone; his four daughters (who still believe he’s Superman and the best man they’ve ever known), Dina (Brent) Robertson of Tennessee, Angela (Dan) Parlin of North Carolina, Shanna (Scott) Lehr of North Carolina, and Tanya (Keith) Bacon of North Carolina; his 10 grandchildren, Jace Parlin, Ryder Parlin, Ella Lehr, Ava Lehr, Skylar Parlin, Jane Lehr, Gage Parlin, Gracie Lehr, Daisy Bacon, and Azalea Bacon, all of North Carolina. These 10 kids were the great joy of his life over the last 15 years.
He is also survived by his mother, Gladys Lenhart of Michigan; eight siblings, Connie Rivard, Peggy (Burt) Goodman, Debbie Graham, Dennis (Donna) Lenhart, Teri Rondo, Larry Lenhart, Linda Lenhar, and Julie (Dallas) Hutchinson; his mother-in-law, Vivian Verran, and special friend, Bill Cameron of Michigan; father-in-law, Jay (Sue) Woolworth of Michigan; sister-in-law, Debbie Vitany and special friend, Adolph Borrego, of Michigan; and brother-in-law, Ray Woolworth of Michigan. He will also be missed by many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Lenhart; sister, Sandy Thompson; father figure, Meryl Richmond; and father-in-law, James Verran.
A memorial service for David Lenhart will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018 ,at Covenant Church, 12621 Strickland Road, Raleigh. Visitation with the family will follow the service. The family is also planning a memorial service in Michigan, with details to come.
Please do not send flowers. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to David’s favorite ministry, Southbridge Fellowship’s Men’s Ministry, which he passionately led so men would be connected to Jesus for life change. www.southbridgefellowship.com
