Patricia Elizabeth Neal, 75, of Youngsville passed peacefully Saturday, February 3, 2018, surrounded by loved ones.
Born January 7, 1943 in Charleston, West Virginia to Charles T. Neal and Mary Sanders Neal of Ironton, Ohio, she moved to Raleigh where she was a highly respected floral designer for more than 40 years. She lived in Youngsville for the last decade.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, February 7, 2018, in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Interment at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh followed.
She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael. She is survived by her sister, Sharon; her brother, Charles; and her son, Mark, and his wife, Karen. Her grandchildren, Katherine, Robert and William; her great-granddaughter, Charlotte; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins will miss her greatly.
Known for her feisty attitude combined with a sincere respect for her fellow man, Pat touched many people, both personally and professionally. Her family and friends were central to her life; her love for them was boundless and reciprocated in kind.

Faythe “Laurie” Harding

Faythe “Laurie” Harding, 72, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at WakeMed in Raleigh. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Pauline Weaver Harding and G.H. Harding. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Gage Newsome.
Memorial services were held Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Wake Forest Church of God with Pastor Philip Lyon officiating.
She is survived by: her son, Kevin J. Newsome and wife, Heather, of Rocky Mount; and grandchildren, Sterling Newsome of Youngsville and Dakota and Sydney Newsome, both of Rocky Mount.

Valerie Anne Ham

Valerie Anne Ham, 73, went to be with the Lord while surrounded by her family on February 8, 2018 after a battle with cancer.
She was a Valentine’s baby, born to Charles and Jean Lippy on February 14, 1944 in Baltimore, Maryland. She has three younger brothers: Craig, Brian, and Joe. A registered nurse who graduated from the University of Maryland, she married Robert Ham in 1968. God blessed them with four children (Drew, Kelly, Lisa, and Jason), and a gang of grandchildren. She loved them dearly and was thrilled to spend her final days with them in Wake Forest.
In 1982, after a 20-year military career, Bob and Val settled in Maryland, where they had previously been stationed. They were very committed to their church in Lexington Park, Maryland. Valerie was involved with a medical mission team that traveled to Moldova and she traveled to Moldova every year for over a decade, later assisting in the funding and construction of a clean water project there. Bob and Val moved to Florida in 2010 and were excited to join Trinity Baptist Church. They both loved to serve where needed, and had a blast taking their grandchildren to Disney World and Lego-Land!
Even though Bob passed away in 2015, Val often spoke of him and their marriage. She was a devoted wife to the very end, wearing her wedding band until the day she died.
Memorial services were held Saturday, February 10, 2018, at North Wake Baptist Church in Wake Forest.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a mission project called Entermissions (please make checks payable to “North Wake Church” and simply add Entermissions in the memo line).
“Mema,” as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren, will be greatly missed. Her faith in Jesus Christ was evident to all who knew her.

Sue Ann Farlow

Sue Ann Farlow, 82, died Friday, February 9, 2018. She was born February 2, 1936 in Chatham County to the late Burkett P. Phillips and Nannie Grubbs Phillips. Sue Ann was a graduate of City Memorial Hospital in Winston–Salem, where she received her nursing degree.
She worked as a registered nurse and retired, after 38 years, as the operating room supervisor from Rex Hospital. Sue Ann was a member of Caraleigh Baptist Church in Raleigh.
Sue Ann was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
A memorial service for Sue Ann was held Tuesday, February 13, 2018, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home.
Surviving are her husband, of 60 years, B. Frank Farlow Jr. of Raleigh; a son, Rodney Farlow and wife, Cheryl, of Wake Forest; three grandsons, Stephen, Benjamin and Lukas; a brother, Gary Phillips of Bear Creek; and a sister, Berta Lou Scott, and husband, Hoyt, of Bear Creek.

Robert Maynard Pearce

Robert Maynard Pearce, 94, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018, at his residence. Maynard was a son of the late Dollie Pearce and Kate Pearce of Franklin County.
Maynard was a loyal member of New Hope Baptist Church since 1956. He served his country in World War II from 1944 to 1946. He married Esther Alford of Youngsville in 1947 and they had two sons, Robert and Kent.
Maynard loved going to any event that involved his two grandchildren, Morgan and Zach.
Maynard is survived by his wife, of 70 years, Esther; sons, Robert (Michelle), and Kent; grandchildren, Morgan (Clark) and Zach; and sisters, Eleanor and Faye.
He was preceded by his sister, Robert, and brothers, Philip and Kimble.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 14, 2018, at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Helen Bernice Brown

Helen Bernice Brown, 88, of Butner passed away Monday, February 6, 2018, at Duke Regional Hospital. She was born in Tishomingo County/Lee County, Mississippi on May 28, 1929 to the late Henry Archie Deaton and Ada Tidwell Deaton.
After many years of dedicated service, she retired from Battle Creek VA Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester A. Brown; brothers, Chamlis Deaton and Dwight Deaton; sisters, Zelma Scoby and Inez Pharr; and numerous, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Brown had a beautiful smile and was loved by many. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching wrestling, spending time with family and friends, and cooking. She will be greatly missed by her family and everyone that knew her.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, Michael Brown of Battle Creek, Michigan, Carol Brown of Battle Creek, and Brenda Glasper Foye and husband, Alvis, of Franklinton; grandchildren, Michael Brown Jr., Christopher Brown, Andrew Brown, Angela Hubbard, Marvin Glasper II and Julius Glasper; eleven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; four half-brothers and one half-sister; niece, Patti Jones (Craig) of Battle Creek; niece, Sara George (Riley) of Belmont, Mississippi; nephew, Sonny Pharr of Battle Creek; extended family and friends; special longtime friend, Mildred Lewis; and home aide, Brenda Russell, who she became very fond of.

Clair Mielke

Clair Mielke, 87, of Wake Forest, formerly of Stuart, Florida, passed away February 8, 2018 at Avendelle at Carlton Pointe surrounded by her family. She was born in Hampden County, Massachusetts to the late Alexander O’Leary and Katherine Sweeney.
Clair became a registered nurse after graduating from Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Holyoke, Massachusetts. She worked as an RN for several years before starting a family. She enjoyed being a stay-at-home mom while caring for her three children. She later worked for Wells Fargo Bank after her children were grown. Clair traveled every summer to spend time with her grandchildren. She liked playing cards, board games and had a wonderful sense of humor. Clair will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 o’clock Friday afternoon, March 2, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1200 SE 10th St, Stuart, FL 34996. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City, FL.
Mrs. Mielke is survived by her children, John Mielke Jr., Kathleen and husband, Thomas, and Sandra and husband, Jeff; grandchildren, Kurt, Brett, Krista, Drew, Katie, Christopher, Steven and Scott; brother, Edward O’Leary; and a host of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Mielke, to whom she was married to for 52 years.

Lucille Armstrong Ward, 94, of Wake Forest, formerly of Columbia, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born in Washington County to the late Thomas Armstrong and Lula Mae Ainsley.
Mrs. Ward was a graduate of College of The Albemarle where she received her degree as a registered nurse in her 50s. As a military wife and nurse, she was faithful in taking care of her family and the many people that needed care. She was a member of Columbia Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon, February 17, 2018, at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Raleigh Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service at New Hope Baptist Church, 4301 Louisburg Road, Raleigh.
Mrs. Ward is survived by her children, Joyce Cardella and husband, Charlie, of Valrico, Florida, Crystal Newton and husband, Wayne, of Vero Beach, Florida, Linda Sue Masquat of North Wilkesboro, Thomas Ward of Clayton, Hubert E. Ward Jr. of Clayton, David Ward and wife, Donna, of Raleigh and Brian Ward and wife, Ronda, of Creedmoor; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert E. Ward Sr.; daughter-in-law, Linda Ward; brothers, Ausbon Armstrong, Russell Armstrong, Charlie Armstrong and Lindsey Armstrong; and sister, Gertie Armstrong.
