*Hope House Weekly Food Pantry distributes food at 1 p.m. every Thursday. Hope House volunteers pick up the food from the Food Bank of Eastern and Central North Carolina and the house typically has vegetables, fruits, salad packages and breads but sometimes does have meat, eggs, fruit juice and milk. *Turkey Drive Drop-Off is Saturday, Nov. 18, when from 9 a.m. to noon when members of the Wake Forest Police Department will be at the main station, 225 South Taylor Street, to accept donations of frozen turkeys, checks and gift cards to purchase more turkeys. The turkeys will be distributed to disadvantaged families on Monday, Nov. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. or as long as the supply lasts.
*A Christmas Open House at Under the Oaks at 2033 Wait Avenue will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 18, and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, with free refreshments, door prizes, and lots of new pottery for your gift giving.
*Native Americans in America and Europeans Among the Cherokee is the topic when William Anderson, professor emeritus of history at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, speaks at a meeting of the General James Moore Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution on Tuesday, Nov. 21, beginning at 2 p.m. The meeting will be in the Wake Forest Historical Museum, 414 North Main Street, and the public is invited.
*The Lighting of Wake Forest on Friday, Dec. 1, will officially start the town’s holiday season. The annual event will be held in Centennial Plaza on Brooks Street in front of Wake Forest Town Hall. The event will begin at 6 p.m. See article in this issue for complete information.
*The Holiday Artisans Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, in the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre while outdoors in the Renaissance parking lot the Wake Forest Craft Market and Farmers Market will lure shoppers. Entrance to these three events is free. You will find local potters, jewelers, fabric and fiber creators, wood workers and crafters.
