The Wake Forest Historical Association will host a meeting about the country stores that were at every four corners and other places years ago. There will be some pictures and information but the format of the meeting will allow everyone there to recall where they used to go as a child.
The meeting will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Wake Forest Historical Museum on North Main Street. It is free to everyone and there will be refreshments.

The Koinonia Pumpkin Patch & Mum Sale, the third annual, will be on the grounds of the Wake Forest Historical Museum on North Main Street, Thursday, Sept. 28, through Sunday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. until dark each day. And the items on sale have expanded to include fall and Halloween wreaths and fall yard cutouts.
The money raised will go to support Koinonia’s various charities, which include Meals on Wheels, Backpack Buddies, Safe Space, Tri-Area Ministries Food Pantry and the ChurchNet Foundation. Koinonia recently gave $19,000 in grants to these organizations.
Koinonia also has a focus charity during this event, the after-school tutoring program at Hope House on North Allen Road. They are asking that people bring donations of school supplies and new books for K through fifth grade students.

There was a surprise today – Wednesday, Sept. 27 – when teens at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club saw their newly renovated Teen Center. Aaron’s Inc. has had dozens of associates repainting, installing new electronics and appliances and moving in new furniture since Monday. This is the 22nd renovation across the country by Aaron’s.
Wake Forest Mayor Vivian Jones and Commissioner Greg Harrington were on hand for the 3:30 p.m. unveiling on Wednesday. The staff at the Boys & Girls Club hope the new Teen Center will help increase membership.
The Boys & Girls Club provides after-school activities and tutoring for Wake Forest children in a safe and nurturing environment. It is on South Wingate Street.

Burlington Mills Road has been reopened, almost a month earlier than anticipated. It was reopened on Sunday, Sept. 24.
Gaines and Company, the developer of the new subdivision, the Preserve at Kitchin Farms, closed both lanes between One World Way and Ligon Mill Road, on Tuesday, Aug. 22, and indicated the road would remain closed through late October.
