The contractor Gaines and Company that is developing the Preserve at Kitchin Farms subdivision is tentatively scheduled to close a single lane of Burlington Mills Road east of One World Way beginning Monday, Aug. 22. An official date will be announced later this week.
After closing the single lane for several days, Gaines and Company are expected to close the road entirely through late October. While the road is closed there will be detour signs to direct traffic around the work area.
The road closure is necessary to allow crews to prepare for widening and then widening the road as required by the state Department of Transportation when the Town of Wake Forest approved the rezoning and master plan for the subdivision which will add 123 single-family homes to the town.

Still not much water fun in Wake Forest this summer. The sprayground at the Taylor Street Park is nearly complete, but Ed Austin, the athletics superintendent in the town’s parks and rec department, said there is no opening date yet. Parks and rec Director Ruben Wall, who is out of town this week, said staff would be meeting with the Wake County construction manager “to go over his punch list for the sprayground” so it seems opening may come before the end of August.
And fewer than three contractors had bid on the Holding Park Pool project when the bid period ended on Aug. 8 – two bids? Just one? – so the project will be re-advertised and bids will be accepted through Aug. 23.
