Dora Mae Pergerson Johnson

Dora Mae Pergerson Johnson, 70, passed away Thursday morning, June 29, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late Ida Marie Faulkner Pergerson and Jasper Jennings Pergerson. Dora was a loving wife, mother, and Nana and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A memorial service honoring her life was held Wednesday, July 5, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Pergerson officiating. A committal service honoring Dora Mae and Johnny Johnson was held at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens directly after the memorial service.
Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Johnny Edward Johnson; brothers, Robert Pergerson of Youngsville and Jasper Pergerson Jr. of Wake Forest; and sisters, Annie Marie Ross “Snookie” of Franklinton, Lilly Ball of Franklinton, Joyce Maness of Franklinton, Ruby Christine Perry “Tina” of Youngsville and Betty Lou Pearce of Franklinton.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughters, Tanya McCord (Bob) of Franklinton and Maranda Mason (Rod) of Louisburg; a sister, Brenda Perry (William “Buck”) of Youngsville; sisters-in-law, Emma Pergerson of Wake Forest and Betty Pergerson of Youngsville; brother-in-law, Gene Perry of Youngsville; grandchildren, Autumn Best (Brandon) of Smithfield, Hunter Mason (Syerra Hicks) of Louisburg and Ethan Mason of Louisburg. Special thanks to Crystal Matthews for helping us care for our parents in their home.

Larry E. Willis

Larry E. Willis, 76, of Wake Forest passed away on June 27, 2017 at his home. Larry was born in Barnesville, Ohio, on July 27, 1940 to the late Ralph and Helen Willis.
Larry was an active member of the Wake Union Baptist Church serving as a deacon. He served in the U.S. Army reserves and loved his country.
Mr. Willis is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janice E. Smith Willis, his daughter, Kimberly J. (Willis) McVay; his son-in-law, Glen McVay; and his two grandsons, Greg and Jordan McVay.
A celebration of life service was held Saturday, July 1, 2017 in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Harrison officiating.

John Andrew Boyd, age 39, lost life’s battle on June 27, 2017. John was born on May 30, 1978 in Elmira, New York, and graduated from Gilford High School in Gilford, New Hampshire. He lived on Linnett Court in Youngsville.
He is survived by his daughter, Kendra Boyd of Campton, New Hampshire; his parents, Keith and Lucille Boyd of Raleigh; sisters, Stephanie (Shawn) Miller of Youngsville and Kathleen (Allen) Boykin of Clayton; beloved soulmate, Jennifer Lovin of Youngsville; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
John was employed as an analyst for HCL America Inc. in Cary. He was passionate about his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, hiking, art and creative design, music, playing guitar and loved living life and all things Batman. John was actively involved with his soulmate in Positive Atitude 4 All, LLC (+@titude4All) to provide inspiration, strength and support for people struggling with life’s challenges.
A funeral service was held Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Bright Funeral Home. The family received friends following the service at the funeral home.

Donald Gordon Steele

Donald Gordon Steele, 79, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 surrounded by his children. A Celebration of Life was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Wake Forest Presbyterian Church followed by a reception in the Christian Life Center. Mr. Steele’s remains were placed in the Memorial Garden at Howard Memorial Presbyterian Church in Tarboro.
Don was preceded in death in 2012 after 53 years of marriage by his wife, Wilma Pinkerton Steele. He is survived by his daughter, Cheri Stalls and husband, Lloyd, of Wilmington; son Greg Steele and wife, Jane, of Greenville; grandchildren Charli Saxon and husband, Holton, Matt Steele and wife, Kirstie, Maggie Stalls, Emily Steele and Drew Steele; Wilma’s brothers, Dennis Pinkerton of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Hank Pinkerton and wife, Celeste, of Bayville, New York; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Sophie.
Don, known to some as Herb, was born in Albion, New York to the late Edna and Clarence Steele on January 8, 1938. He graduated from Albion High School and earned a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. Don worked in various capacities in the accounting and telephone industries before retiring from Sprint.
He and Wilma were very active in church and civic organizations in each of the communities they lived including Junior Achievement, Rotary, and Boy Scouts and served as a deacon and elder in the various Presbyterian churches they attended. He and Wilma helped create Wake Forest Presbyterian Church JOY (Just Older Youth) group and Don enjoyed helping count the offering and welcoming visitors at church and delivering Meals on Wheels. He will be missed for his energy and leadership in all his endeavors.

Sandy Minor, 60, passed away on Tuesday morning, June 27, 2017, at her residence. She was born in Durham County, the daughter of the late Dorothy Hall Gourley and J.C. Gourley. She was a retired school bus driver for Franklin County.
A graveside funeral service was held Friday afternoon, June 30, 2017, in the Minor Family Cemetery with the Rev. Gary McNair officiating.
Sandy is survived by her husband, Ricky Minor; daughters, Crystal Tingen and Amanda E. Moore; sisters, Debbie Gourley and Ruth Daughtry; brothers, Doug Gourley, Paul Gourley, Gary Gourley, Marty Gourley and Chris Gourley; and grandchildren Preston Moore, Carleigh Tingen, Bella Robinson and Dylan Williams.

Ann Daniel “Danny” Ray, 83, died Tuesday, June 27, 2017. She was born in Franklin County, the daughter of the late William and Millie Braswell Boone. Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Charlotte Boone Hawley, and Martha Boone Burgess.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, June 29, 2017, at Cedar Rock First Baptist Church with the Rev. Williams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Ray is survived by her husband, Roger E. Ray of Castalia; son, Charles N. Hart Jr. of Castalia; nieces and nephews, Jenny Johnson and husband, Eric, of Mebane, Elizabeth Jennings, James Jennings and wife, Colleen, of Auburn, Alabama, Martha Martin and husband, Duke, of Coppell, Texas, Vann Burgess and wife, Gayle, of Stafford, Virginia, Graham Perry and wife, Ashley, of Nashville, Tennessee; brother-in-law, Euston Ray and wife, Dorothy, of Prescott, Arizona; and seven great-nephews and four great-nieces.
