The first of the free family movie nights will be Saturday, May 20, at 8:30 p.m. but come 30 or more minutes early if your children want to participate in a pajama fashion show for children 12 and younger.
The movies are shown on an inflatable screen in the amphitheater at E. Carroll Joyner Park on Harris Road. Bring a blanket or chairs but remember alcohol, smoking and unleashed pets are not allowed in the town park.
The movies are hosted by the Wake Forest Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department and are presented by Gladwell Orthodontics, Walters Insurance Agency, Inc., and Mosquito Joe of Eastern Wake County. The Family Movie Nights at Joyner Park will feature a variety of family-friendly film favorites and genres, including comedies, dramas, and thrillers. Assorted food vendors will be on site selling snacks and refreshments.
The following sponsors have generously contributed to the 2017 Family Movie Nights at Joyner Park series: Gladwell Orthodontics, Allstate Insurance – Thomas Walters, Mosquito Joe of Eastern Wake County, Vision Martial Arts, Primrose School of Heritage Wake Forest, Wells Family Dentistry, Rainbow Kids Pediatrics, Kerr Family YMCA and New Direction Family Law.
Due to the terms and conditions outlined in its agreement with the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation, the PRCR Department is not permitted to publicize the title of each month’s film. However, here’s a hint about the May 20 movie: it’s a 2016 American fantasy adventure film directed and co-produced by Steven Spielberg and based on a 1982 novel of the same name. In the film, an orphan girl befriends a benevolent giant, called the “Big Friendly Giant.”
To obtain the titles of the May 20 movie and future films offered as part of the Family Movie Nights at Joyner Park series, sign up for The Week Ahead via E-Notifier at www.wakeforestnc.gov/enotifier.aspx, download the Town’s app, or call 919-556-7063.
Future film screenings are scheduled for June 24, July 29, and Aug. 12. Showtime for each event is 8:30 p.m. Anyone planning to attend is urged to arrive early as viewing space may be limited.
In the event of rain, Family Movie Night may be moved inside the Flaherty Park Community Center, 1226 N. White St. Updates will be provided on the Town’s website and Facebook page and by calling the Wake Forest Weather Line at 919-435-9569. Smart phone users who have downloaded the Town of Wake Forest app will receive a push notification informing them of any schedule changes.
