The Wake Forest Town Board had a short agenda aside from four proclamations on Tuesday night. The commissioners unanimously approved the consent agenda and then turned to the only other item before them, consideration of a special use permit for the planned small retail development named Wake Union Place on the site of the former Parker-Hannifin (Schrader-Bellows) site on Wake Union Church Road at its intersection with Capital Boulevard.
Commissioner Brian Pate tried to persuade the other four commissioners to make the street extension to the St. Ives subdivision where it ties into Lola Lane a one-way street, saying the residents there have asked for it because they fear additional cut-through traffic to Kearney Road. The subdivision streets have grassy verges and swales, part of the plan because it is in the Falls Lake watershed.
No one agreed, though Commissioner Margaret Stinnett said her concern was the lack of improvements at the Kearney intersection. The vote was 4-1 with Pate disagreeing.

It is spring, time to clean and spruce up the place, and Wake Forest Power is planning a little painting. The utility has hired a contractor, Transformer Maintenance & Service to paint 150 downtown street light poles and fixtures. The company’s crews will be working on light poles along South Franklin Street, Elm Avenue, Brooks Street, South White Street between Elm Avenue and 153 North White Street, and South Taylor Street between Wait Avenue and Elm Avenue. There may be some temporary parking restrictions.
