The town’s street department led by Superintendent Ronald Moore is beginning an ambitious sidewalk replacement project along Elm Avenue between South Taylor Street and South Franklin Street.
Crews will remove and replace the sidewalk on the north side and will also remove and replace several trees from the slope there, lowering the slope and building a retention wall. Wake Forest Power will install new streetlights along the corridor.
There will be no impact on traffic but walkers and runners will have to find an alternate route until the project is finished in early June, weather permitting.
The department is also replacing the sidewalk on the west side of South Main Street and rebuilding the slope into Holding Park.
