Claxton W. Keith

Wake Forest

Claxton W. Keith, 92, died on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Wake Med. He was born in Granville County, the son of the late Mollie Ray Keith and Zeb Keith.

He was a graduate of Wilton High School and was a member of Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church.

He retired from Fruit of the Loom as a mechanic after 45 years of service.

A funeral service was held Friday afternoon, March 17, 2017, at Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Keith is survived by his sister, Joyce Strickhouser and husband, Don,of Rocky Mount; nephews Ed Strickhouser and wife, Rhonda, of Rocky Mount and Leland Bailey and wife ,Connie, of Apex; and nieces, Roxanne Wollard and husband, Billy, of Dubai and Susan Liverman and husband, Rick, of Midlothian, Virginia.

Flowers are accepted or memorial contributions can be made to Mary’s Chapel Baptist Church.

Polly Anna Beck Hemphill

Raleigh

Polly Anna Beck Hemphill, 85, of Raleigh passed away Wednesday evening, March 15, 2017, at WakeMed after a long battle with cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

She was born in Burke County, the daughter of the late Frank and Georgia Hogan Beck, and was the oldest and the longest living of six children. Polly loved to cook and was her happiest when she was spending time with her family and pets. She worked at the Sears Warehouse in contract sales where she retired after 20 years of service.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March 20, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home with the Rev. Kim Lamb officiating. Burial was in Historic Oakwood Cemetery.

Polly is survived by her husband of 65 years, Paul H. “Blue” Hemphill; children, Paul H. Hemphill Jr. and wife, Linda “Lin,” of Southern Pines, Scott Hemphill and wife, Allison, of Clayton, and Beth Hemphill Broadway and husband, Jimmy, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Lindsey Hemphill, Nathan “Nate” Clark and wife, Tiffany, Drew Hemphill and wife, Molly, and Tyler Hemphill; and great-grandchildren, Carter, Lydia, Hannah and Elliott.

Pallbearers were Paul Hennessee Hemphill Jr., Michael Scott Hemphill, Nathan William Clark, Tyler Paul Hemphill, Andrew Scott Hemphill and Jimmy Broadway.

Dennis Lee Herwick

Youngsville

Dennis Lee Herwick, 63, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017. He was born January 16, 1954 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Doris Pearl Moore Herwick and Hyle Kimble Herwick. Dennis worked for many years as a civil engineer, most recently at Kimley-Horn in Cary. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jefferey Herwick.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Gorman Baptist Church in Durham. Rev. Craig Phelps will officiate. Burial  will follow in Wake Forest Cemetery.

Dennis is survived by his children, Darby Herwick and his wife, Darby, of Wake Forest, Veronica Jamison and husband, Seth, of Wake Forest, Denise McLeod and husband, Brian, of Creedmoor, and Daniel Herwick of Henderson; eight grandchildren, Cheyenne, Dylan, Jessica, Justin, Hyle, Nico, Izebella and Ryan; a great-grandbaby, Logan; siblings, Debbie Danner and husband, Joe, Hyle Kimball Herwick Jr., Betty Barlow and Hylene Sherman; and eight nieces and nephews.

Flowers are accepted or donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Felton Leonard Bailey

Wake Forest

Felton Leonard Bailey, 87, passed away on Friday March 17, 2017, at Hillside Nursing Center. He was a great and loving father, husband and grandfather. He was very talented. He could play the guitar, banjo, fiddle and harmonica. He taught his daughter, Ann to play the guitar at the age of 10.

He was the son of the late Lector Smith Bailey and Arthur Bailey of Wake Forest.

He was a member of New Light Church of God since his early twenties. He loved the Lord with all his heart. His career started with working at Brevoort’s Dairy Farm, later as a truck driver for Goldston’s Lumber Co., then driving for Devil Dog Clothing of Zebulon. His last job was working at Mini-City Auto Body, Inc. in Raleigh. He was there working with his family, daughter, son-in-law and wife.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, March 21, 2017, in the Chapel of Bright Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Wake Forest Cemetery.

Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife, Catherine of Wake Forest; his daughter, Ann Ray and husband, Donald, of Youngsville; and son, Paul Bailey and wife, Brittany, of Wake Forest. Other children are Janice Jones and husband, Mike, of Wilson, Kevin Pearson and wife, Tracey, of Sims, Christy Hamilton and husband, Kyle, of Garner; grandchildren, Kathy Averett and husband, Steve, of Youngsville, David Marshall Jr. and wife, Amy, of Youngsville, Gerald Ray of Raleigh, Anthony Bailey and Jackson Bailey of Wake Forest, Chase Bible of Wake Forest, Megan, Tiffany and Jonathan Jones of Wilson, Kyleigh and Kaden Hamilton of Garner; great-grandchildren, Brittany and Brandon Averett of Youngsville, Erin and David Marshall III of Youngsville, Alexis and Jason Ray of Raleigh; sisters, Liffie Chamblee and husband, Harold, of Raleigh and Evelyn Seagroves and husband, Albert, of Wake Forest; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Macon Bailey and William Leonard Bailey of Wake Forest; sisters, Lector Mae Piper of Creedmoor, Essie Etta King of Franklinton, Ella Mae Bailey of Youngsville, Ola Ree Williams and Ozie Estelle Bailey of Wake Forest; and three nephews.
