Yolanda F. Palone

Yolanda F. Palone, 96, formerly of Dry Tavern, Pennsylania, passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at the Carillon Assisted Living of Wake Forest. She was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Margaret Kronk Kern and John Kern.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Palone, and a daughter, Sandra J. Walker.
A visitation will be held at the Behm Funeral Home in Jefferson, Pennyslvania on Saturday, March 11, 2017. A graveside service will follow in the Greene County Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Palone is survived by her daughter, Joan Ellis and husband, John, of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Amy Jezek and husband, Jeff, of Frederick, Maryland, Christopher Runnion and wife, Christine, of Valparaiso, Indiana; four great-grandchildren; and a sister; Jacqueline Callahan of Phoenix, Arizona.

Charles Howard Yahn

Charles Howard Yahn, 85, passed away on March 1, 2017 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was born June 6, 1931 in Pierre, South Dakota, the son of Sylvester and Elsie Yahn. At a young age, he joined the U.S. Navy, where he eventually served during the Korean War.
He was a successful business man and an avid golfer. However, of all of his accomplishments and interests, his greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family.
The family will hold a private memorial service to celebrate the life of Mr. Yahn.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Hawley Yahn; his children, Theresa Eckstrom of Worcester, Massachusetts, Stephen Yahn and his wife, Trish, of Havana, Florida, Leslie Yahn of Worcester, Amy Yahn Black and her husband, James Black, of Durham; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, David.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Lung Association.

Evelyn Estelle Iacovelli of Wake Forest died Tuesday, February 28, 2017, at Hillside Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, the daughter of the late James and Daisy Curtis Dunning.
A memorial service will be held in New Jersey at a later date.
Mrs. Iacovelli is the beloved mother of Debra M. Kelly, Michelle A. Najarian and the late Raymond J. Iacovelli; mother-in-law of James Najarian, Jean Iacovelli and the late Kevin Kelly; cherished grandmother of Scott Iacovelli and his wife, Kelli, Ryan Iacovelli and William Najarian; cherished great-grandmother of Addison Iacovelli; dear sister of Edward Dunning and the late Ruth Dunning, Anna Schwenk, James Dunning, and Herbert Dunning; and caring aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Karen Michelle ‘Miki’ Konkle

Karen Michelle “Miki” Konkle, 57, passed away Thursday morning, March 2, 2017, at Rex Hospital. She was born in Highlands, New York, the daughter of William Konkle Jr. and the late Carol Groome.
Miki was a secretary with ACC Cabinets in Youngsville.
A memorial service celebrating her life was held at Monday afternoon, March 6, 2017, at the Bay Leaf Baptist Church, 12200 Bay Leaf Church Road, in Raleigh.
Miki is survived by her son, Jake Stikeleather and his fiancée, Brittany Lovette, of Angier; her father, Bill Konkle of Wake Forest; a brother, Zeke Konkle and wife, Emily, of Wake Forest; grandson, Evan Stikeleather; and niece and nephews, Liam, Ethan and Tinsley.

Timothy ‘Tim’ Herron

Timothy Patrick “Tim” Herron, 62, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at WakeMed. He was born in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Evelyn Sheets and Frank Herron.
A funeral service was held at Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017, at Calvary’s Cross Baptist Church, Louisburg. Burial followed in the Beulah Christian Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Herron is survived by his wife, of 43 years, Cecile “Tutti” Herron; daughter, Susan Thrower and husband, Walt, of Willow Springs; a son, Chris Herron and wife, Elizabeth, of Youngsville; grandchildren, Jacob, Andrew, Isaac and Madilyn Herron; sisters, Paulette Aldridge and husband, Dallas, Barbara Darrington, Cathy Tafoya and husband, Jim, Tonya Skinner and husband, Ken; a brother, Terry Herron and wife, Chris; and many nieces and nephews.

Patricia Frances Franks

Patricia Frances Franks, 78, passed away on March 2, 2017 at her home. She was born on April 28, 1938 in Westbury, New York, the daughter of Richard and Eleanor Doyle.
She grew up on Long Island, New York, and then moved to Newark Valley where she raised her three children. She was employed by Tioga County as an administrative assistant for the Housing Department. She retired to Raleigh with her husband, where they resided for the last 20 years.
Pat enjoyed entertaining family, cooking, gardening, eating chocolate, cleaning, dancing, and listening to Rod Stewart, Julio Iglesias, and the Jersey Boys CD. She also appreciated a good scatter rug. Her house was always the one with the most flowers planted in the yard. She will be remembered for her love and dedication to her cats, and her roast beef with little carrots in the gravy.
There will be a celebration of Pat’s life on Sunday, April 2, 2017, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at Edythe’s Care Home, 202 West Glenn Street, Zebulon.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Ann and husband, Edgar, of Youngsville and Patricia Ellen Parker and husband, William, of Arvada, Colorado; and her grandchildren, Ryan, Jason, and Patrick Barron, Ilyssa and Graham Levy, and Matthew and Hunter Franks.
She was predeceased by her sister, Catherine Mayer; husband, William; and son, Edward.

Grace Woodlief Dean, 84, passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Hillside Nursing Center. She was born in Wake County, the daughter of the late Dorothy Dixon Woodlief and Zollie G. Woodlief.
Grace was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and had served as the church treasurer. She had worked for Walker Martin Inc. in Raleigh and for the Southeastern Seminary in Wake Forest.
A funeral service was held at 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon, March 5, 2017, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Diane Dean Willis and husband, Randy, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Justin Willis and Caitlyn Willis, both of Raleigh; nieces, Theresa Woodlief, Gwen Woodlief and husband, Everett; great-nephews, Ray Bailey and wife, Cathy Jo, Ryan Woodlief, Zollie Woodlief and wife, Anna; great-niece, Mary Beth Neville and husband, Brandon; great-great-nephew, Jack Bailey; and a great-great-niece, Molly Kate Neville.

Nancy Jean Lee Brown

Nancy Jean Lee Brown of Wake Forest transitioned to her eternal home on Friday, March 3, 2017. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Otis Brown Jr.; her son, Richard Otis Dupree Jr.; and sisters, Jackie Lee (infant), Beatrice (Dale) Naquin and Truea (Trudy) Smith.
Nancy was born to Beatrice Iola Butler Lee and Cap Lee on June 13, 1931 in Dunn. She was an employee of Westinghouse in Raleigh for nearly thirty years where she met her husband, Charlie. During her youth she was a member of Lee’s Grove Baptist Church in Dunn. Later in her life she became a faithful member of St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church in Wake Forest. Additionally she was the unofficial Diner-Emeritus at the Forks Cafeteria in Wake Forest.
Although she never received any formal training she played the piano ‘by ear’ and was often accompanied by her sisters, Dale and Trudy, singing gospel hymns. The “Three Lee Girls” remained close their entire lives.
A funeral mass celebrating Nancy’s life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 600 West Holding Avenue, Wake Forest. A burial for both Nancy, and her late husband, Charles O. Brown Jr., will be in Ridgecrest Baptist Church Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.
Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love represented by her family, including her daughter, Suszon Brown Daniel and husband, Richard; her son, Charles O. Brown II; grandchildren, Brittany Long (Josh), Brooke Zebrine (Brandon), Mollie Daniel, Rick Dupree, Nikki Brown, Madison Brown, Taylor Brown, Rebekah Brown and Zachary Brown; great-grandchildren, Lyla and Leah; along with many nieces and nephews. Also, she leaves behind many special friends including Mike and Margaret Zebrine, Wayne and Terry Bailey, Tracy McClendon, Shirley, Pam and Major.

Peggy Wheeler Mitchell

Peggy Wheeler Mitchell passed away on March 3, 2017 at the age of 83. Peggy was born in Granville County August 14, 1933 to the late Harry Wheeler and Lora O’Neal Wheeler. She was the widow of her late husband of 54 years, Harold Lee Mitchell.
Peggy was a graduate of Wilton High School in 1951 where she served as the salutatorian of her class. She worked as office clerk for Burlington Industries before joining her husband at their business, Mitchell Super Market and Western Wear.
After she and her husband retired, Peggy became a volunteer at Wilton Elementary school for 15 years where she really enjoyed working with the children and teachers. Peggy served as a longtime member of Mt. Carmel Christian Church where she held many positions such as choir director, pianist and Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of the Brassfield Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary where she enjoyed the fundraisers and serving her community with her neighbors.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, 2017, at the Mt. Carmel Christian Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Peggy is survived by her son, Larry Mitchell and wife, Eden; one daughter, Karen Mitchell Blackley and husband, Robert; three grandchildren, Jessica Mitchell Wilkins and husband, Holden, Jennifer Mitchell High and husband, Michael, and grandson Mitchell Blackley; three great-grandchildren, Kassity Wilkins, Gracie High, and Chesley Wilkins; a cousin that was like a son, Shane Mitchell and wife, Amy, and their children, Nicholas and Alydia; and sisters-in-law, Lucille Gooch and Frances Hudson.

Frank Edward Wells Jr., 76, died Sunday, March 5, 2017, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was born April 4, 1940 in New Jersey to the late Edward and Evelyn Smith Wells. Mr. Wells owned and operated Kohler Funeral Home in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey for many years. Frank was a Republican councilman and police commissioner in the town of Wood-Ridge. He was a past president of the Lions Club. He loved golf, gardening and cooking.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Trudy Gibbons Wells of Caswell Beach; a son, Tod Wells and wife, Gina, of Cornelius; two daughters, Jodi Wells Currin and husband, Neill, of Wake Forest and Jill Wells Backstrom and husband, Lee, of Wake Forest; eight grandchildren, Lindsay Madden, Alec Wells, J.T. Madden, Derek Wells, Sage Backstrom, Taylor Backstrom, Bridget Madden and Dean Backstrom; and two step-grandchildren, Zack Currin and Allie Currin.
