Town officials will host a public meeting Thursday, Feb. 23, from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the ground floor meeting room at town hall for residents’ input on the final draft of the Renaissance Plan, about a year after the update process began. People can review the plan at www.wakeforestnc.gov/renaissance-plan-update.aspx.
The meeting will be an informal open house where residents can drop in any time to ask questions and offer comments about the plan. You can also submit comments by email at renaissanceplan@wakeforestnc.gov before 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.
First adopted in 2004, the Renaissance Plan for the Heart of Wake Forest proposed a clear vision for the re-invigoration of the downtown area. With about 220 acres, the Renaissance Area lies between the CSX rail line to the west, the N.C. 98 Bypass to the south, and the historic and central business districts to the north and east. There is a mix of retail, service, office, governmental, residential and light industrial uses in the area with several undeveloped properties and vacant lots scattered throughout.
The Renaissance Plan seeks to provide policy and programmatic recommendations for the revitalization of and the encouragement of reinvestment into the historic downtown. The plan also proposes a number of realistic development opportunities specifically targeted throughout the heart of the Wake Forest community which are aimed at creating a more vibrant community to engage all who visit, work, and live in this special place.
