Brief Bits

Tuesday night Commissioner Anne Reeve, who is the town board’s liaison with the Wake Forest Fire Department, said the department has begun looking for land for Station #6 on the east side of town.

It is not quite that easy yet. As Fire Chief Ron Early replied in an email Wednesday, “We are looking but have not narrowed down the data. We are reviewing responses, population and future growth to determine the who, what, where, how and when for the next station. We want to get ahead of the growth and secure land before it gets bought up or built up before we can secure a site. We are nowhere near a point that a station can even be considered being built at this time.”

Let us hope that the plans for and the construction of that station will not be as contentious as was Station #4 on Jenkins Road.

VFW Memorial Post 8466 in Wake Forest presented awards to outstanding first responder personnel in local communities during its Feb. 2 meeting.

Those receiving awards were Assistant Chief Larry Hill of the Bunn Rural Fire Department, Kathy Smith with Franklin County Emergency Services and Lieutenant Jason Graham with the Wake Forest Fire Department.

Each of the recipients has over 20 years serving their community as a first responders. They will now go to the district and state levels for further recognition.
