Brief Bits

The snow and ice clamped down on much activity this week, including keep track of the situation with the Wake Forest and Rolesville post offices, but Rolesville Mayor Frank Eagles did have an update Wednesday.

He said he had a call from his contact in the regional USPS office in Greensboro who told him there will be a delay in transferring the mail couriers from Wake Forest to Rolesville. Now it will be done the second week in February.

“I think they have to hire some employees,” Eagles said in an email. “I told her that I had neighbor’s mail yesterday afternoon [actually Monday’s mail].  Still late coming here.  I just realized I am missing bills from this month.  Will let her know.  She insists on me keeping her informed.”

There are reports that some Wake Forest residents are receiving their mail during the day and at what had previously been the regular time. However, residents continue to receive mail meant for a neighbor. And it is difficult to judge the deliveries when the roads are icy and people are urged to stay at home.

In December, after the Wake Forest High School football team won the state 4AA championship, Mayor Vivian Jones appointed a committee headed by the town’s communications director, Bill Crabtree, to decide how and when and where the town will celebrate that win. Wednesday Crabtree said the committee was to meet that day, today, after meeting on Monday had to be cancelled because of the winter storm.

We will have more honors to celebrate. Coach Reggie Lucas with the 16-0 record before the final win was just named the North Carolina Associated Press Coach of the Year and linebacker Darius Hodge was named Defensive Player of the Year.

  1. I live at 615 N. Wingate Street, Wake Forest. For the last 2-3 months we never know when our mail will be delivered. Most days it is between 5:30PM and 6:30PM. lately it has been after 7PM. On many occasions it has been as late as 9:30PM. Last night it was close to 10PM when the mail was delivered. Up until 2-3- months our mail was delivered around 5PM almost every day. Not sure what is going on but I do not like the fact that packages are left on my front porch at such late hours. I also do not think it is safe for the mail carriers to be delivering mail this late at night.

  2. I live in the Meadows subdivision in Wake Forest. After reading all of the horror stories about mail delivery problems in the Wake Forest area, I wanted to mention that my mail service is exellent! After hearing that others aren’t so fortunate, I appreciate our carrier all the more. Kudos to our carrier for delivering the mail accurately and on time!

  3. I live in Whippoorwill Valley, and before I started reading your stories about mail issues all around the area, I assumed the issues were limited to my neighborhood: no standard delivery time; my mail frequently delivered to neighbors or not at all; mail holds not honored or not delivered at the end of the requested hold; packages bent, broken or boxes torn open and delivered with no contents at all! I’ve switched as much of my former mail activities to online as I can, and I just close my eyes and pray when anything important is mailed.
