You are getting ready for the Thanksgiving feast but you fear the extra pounds. Work them off in advance, have fun and raise money to benefit the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club by running or walking in the tenth annual Gobbler’s Run 5K.
You do have to get up early because the race begins at 8 a.m. in front of the Boys & Girls Club on South Wingate Street. Even if you do not feel like running or walking, you can help with registration and details.
The race this year is sponsored by the Jim Allen Group, a Triangle real estate firm. Race Director Cat Redd, who organized the first run in 2006, wants to add substantially to the $202,610 the race has raised for the club.
Everyone can race, from fitness buffs to moms with strollers and, always, the family dog. It is a great way to bring families together, encourage healthy lifestyles and support the community. Last year the 2,000-plus participants raised just under $40,000.
