Still vacancies on town boards

Not enough people have applied to fill all the vacancies on four of the town’s advisory boards – the Cemetery Advisory Board, the Human Relations Council, the Urban Forestry Board and the Senior Center Advisory Board – so the town has extended the deadline to apply to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30. Wake Forest residents and those living in its extraterritorial jurisdiction may apply.

Applications are available on the town’s website at www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-boards.aspx and in the town clerk’s office at town hall. Applications may be completed and submitted online. Completed applications may also be mailed or delivered to the Wake Forest Town Hall, Attention: Town Clerk, 301 S. Brooks St., Wake Forest, NC 27587, or faxed to 919-435-9419 but must be received no later than 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.

Candidates will be expected to attend an upcoming meeting of the advisory board to which they applied in order to introduce themselves to the board’s current members and explain why they wish to serve. To view each advisory board’s interview schedule, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/advisory-boards.aspx and click on “2015 Advisory Board Interview Schedule.”

After the interviews, each advisory board will review its slate of candidates before submitting their recommendations to the Board of Commissioners. The board will announce the advisory board appointments during its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 15. New terms will commence in January 2016.

Selected applicants will volunteer for three-year terms, except where unexpired terms are being filled, and advise the board on a variety of topics relating to the Wake Forest community.

The town’s advisory boards were established to give citizens input into what happens in the community and to advise the board of commissioners on matters that affect citizens and their town government. For more information, contact Town Clerk Deeda Harris at 919-435-9410 or dharris@wakeforestnc.gov.
