Brief Bits

The new stores are opening in Wake Forest Crossing shopping center at the corner of Capital Boulevard and Stadium Drive. Michael’s arts and crafts store will open Friday, July 17, while the clothing store TJ Maxx will hold a job fair Thursday, July 16, at the Holiday Inn Express in Wakefield.

Other stores that will be completed and open soon are Kirklands, a home furnishing store; Petco; Rack Room Shoes; and Ross Dress for Less. Also look for East Coast Wings & Grill, Beverly Nails, Massage Envy, Mattress Firm and Orangetheory Fitness to open their doors within the next few weeks.

Watch out Friday, July 17, because the Wake Forest Fire Department will conduct a controlled burn exercise – part of the department’s ongoing training program – at 446 Durham Road between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. It is the small white house on what was the Paschal family property that was recently purchased by Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Traffic during the exercise will be reduced to one lane with alternating two-say traffic.

The sale included the large white rusticated concrete block house built in the early 1900s by Dr. G.W. Paschal for his large family. The house, which has been empty for years, is being renovated by the seminary and will become the home for Executive Vice President for Operations Ryan Hutchinson and his family.

The walls are going up for the Wake Forest Fire Department’s bitterly contested Station #4 on Jenkins Road. A fire truck is on site along with the new staff, housed in a small building.
