Casablanca Orchestra, a touring show band based in Minnesota, will headline the third concert in the annual Six Sundays in Spring event sponsored by Wake Forest ARTS, the Town of Wake Forest and United Arts of Raleigh and Wake County.
Sunday’s audience can expect a fast-moving exhibition of showmanship and music that covers all the popular genres. Energetic choreography, wardrobe changes, dancing in the aisles – the group of vocalists plus musicians playing a keyboard, guitar, bass, drums and three horns.
The concert runs from 5 to 7 p.m. with the winners of the Wake Forest Has Talent competition performing at intermission. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase, but concert goers may also bring a picnic. Alcoholic beverages, along with gas and charcoal grills are not allowed. Park visitors are reminded that firearms and unleashed pets are also prohibited.
Other acts scheduled to perform during this year’s concert series are Liverpool: Carolina’s Beatles Experience on May 17; Jeanne Holly on May 24; and Gravy Boys on May 31. To view this year’s concert schedule, visit www.wakeforestnc.gov/2014-concert-schedule.aspx.
New this year to Six Sundays in Spring is the “Wake Forest Has Talent!” competition. At intermission during the first five concerts, competition finalists will take the stage and perform. Audience members can vote for their favorite contestants at www.crowdrise.com/wakeforestarts. The finalists range in age from 8 to adult, and include vocalists, rock bands, pianists, country singers and more.
In the event of inclement weather, this year’s concerts may be relocated to the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 South Brooks Street. Updated concert information will be available by 3 p.m. on the day of the concert on Wake Forest TV 10 and the town’s Facebook page and by calling the Wake Forest Weather Line at 919-435-9569.
