There are four reasons you should take a trip to the Wake Forest Fire Department’s Station #1 Friday, April 17, for a plate of their fried fish with everything.
First, they are good cooks and the flounder filet, slaw, potatoes and hush puppies are always delicious. Second, you will help support an organization you really, really want when you need them and their equipment. Third, chances are you will meet, talk to and wave at scores of people you know and maybe rarely see. Fourth, the women and friends of the auxiliary are also terrific bakers and you will find it hard to resist one or more of the desserts, which are extra, not included in the $8 for a plate. Your drink is included in the $8.
The times are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and you can call the station at 919-556-1966 for free delivery of 20 plates or more.
If you are new to the community and wonder why a town service, a fire department, is holding a fund-raising event, it is because the Wake Forest Fire Department is an independent corporation which contracts with the Town of Wake Forest and Wake County to provide fire prevention and suppression services to all of a large area in the northern part of the county.
You can go to the department’s website to see the change, which happened in 1982, and to see the history of fire fighting in the town and area.
Also, this week go to the article about the construction permit for the newest fire station, #4, for information about that station and the department’s other stations.
