Think you have talent?

Move over, American Idol: Wake Forest Arts is looking for local talent to perform at its signature Six Sundays in Spring concerts.

As part of its 25th Anniversary Celebration, Wake Forest ARTS is announcing Wake Forest Has Talent!, its first-ever talent competition. Designed as a showcase for the myriad of talent in the area and a fundraiser for the organization, the group is inviting performers of all ages and genres to enter the competition.

“We’re excited to launch this inaugural competition during our 25th year,” said Mary Petretich, president of the board of Wake Forest ARTS. “We think it’s a great way to give area performers a chance to show off their talents. So whether you’re a singer, a band, a juggler, or a comedian – we want to hear from you!”

The competition will begin with performers submitting videos to Wake Forest ARTS. Contestants simply upload their audition video to YouTube, and send the link to: info@wakeforestarts.org. The deadline for submissions is midnight EST on March 31, 2015. A jury of arts professionals and Wake Forest ARTS board members will select finalists from the videos submitted. Finalists will be notified by April 15.

Wake Forest Has Talent! is not limited to residents of the Town of Wake Forest. The contest is open to any performer or group who is able to perform live during one of the first five concerts in the Six Sundays in Spring concert series (April 26 – May 24). Wake Forest Has Talent! finalists will perform prior to the professional musicians who take the stage at 5 p.m. These concerts are free to the public and held at E. Carroll Joyner Park in Wake Forest.

Audience members will vote for their favorite contest finalists via the online fundraising site, “Crowdrise”. Each finalist will have their own page on the site and supporters will cast “votes” for $1 each. Voting will begin on April 24 and will close at midnight on May 24. The performers or groups that earn the most votes (and money for Wake Forest ARTS) will be named the winners. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three finalists.

Complete details including rules and deadlines, can be found on the Wake Forest ARTS website: www.wakeforestarts.org.
