Carolyn Catron Mayberry

Carolyn Catron Mayberry (Our beloved mother), 83, went home to be with our father Aubrey Mayberry on Thursday, January 11, 2024.

Carolyn was a wonderful mother who will be deeply missed as she loved shopping and luncheons with friends and family.

She is survived by her daughter, Julie Strickland (Keith); son, Brian Mayberry; and grandsons, Braxton, Tanner, and James.

A graveside service will be held at 12 PM on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Pine Forest Memorial Gardens at 770 Stadium Dr. Wake Forest, NC 27587 with Cameron Pinkard officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Bowman, Greg Bowman, Danny Riddle, and Keith Strickland.

Stanley Allen Jones

Zebulon

Stanley Allen Jones, 54, of Zebulon, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.

He is the son of Cecil and Faye Jones of Zebulon, NC.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1-3 PM at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC 27587.

Rev. James Earvin Brisson

Rolesville

Bishop James Earvin Brisson, 87, of Rolesville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at his residence on Monday, January 8, 2024.

Bishop Brisson was a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy, serving over 60 years on local, state, and international levels. He pastored multiple congregations in Florida, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He served out of the Church of God of Prophecy International Offices as Pastoral Care Director and as State Bishop of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Virginia. Ministry was his life. Even his love for aviation was expressed in ministry as a pilot of the White Angel Fleet in the 1960s. (The White Angel Fleet comprised of 82 airplanes utilized to deliver missionaries around the globe along with tract distribution and airport crusades.) Bishop Brisson was known as a pastor of pastors, one with the heart of a shepherd. Congregants valued his expository preaching, and his life was marked by faithfulness and commitment as a leader of leaders.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Thomas (Elizabeth) Brisson; his sister, Clara Mae (Paul) Branch; and their children Sylvia and Gary of Stedman, NC. He is survived by his supportive and loving wife of 68 years, Linnette Brisson, who proved to be a stellar ministry partner; son Ron (Joy) Brisson of Rolesville, NC; daughter, Brenda (Scott) Gillum of Clermont, Florida; grandchildren, Beth Brisson, Nate (Ashley) Brisson of Rolesville, NC, Brittany (Jay) Hagy of Ooltewah, TN, Dr. Pierce (Katy) Gillum of Knoxville, TN; great-grandchildren, Brielle and Jax Hagy of Ooltewah, TN, and Lucie Brisson, Rolesville, NC.

The family acknowledges with deep appreciation the many expressions of love, concern, and kindness shown. A special thank you to Liberty Hospice Services of Wendell/Raleigh for your compassionate team who served our family with excellence. Memorial contributions may be made to New Life Church of God of Prophecy.

Visitation will be held at 12:30 – 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at New Life Church of God of Prophecy, 6900 Zebulon Road, Wake Forest, NC followed by a Celebration of Life at 2:00 P.M.  Burial will follow in New Life Church of God of Prophecy Cemetery, North Main at Pulley Town Road, Rolesville, N.C.

Carrie Ann Waters Haire

Zebulon

Carrie Ann Waters Haire, 84, of Zebulon, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at WakeMed. She was born on May 2, 1939, in Johnston County to the late Tandy and Lucille Waters.

Carrie Ann was a beacon of love and warmth in the lives of her family. As a devoted mother and grandmother, she enriched the lives of those around her with her kindness and unconditional love.

A private burial service was held at Markham Memorial Gardens in Durham, North Carolina.

She is survived by her daughters, Hope Haire Coppock and husband Gary of Louisburg, and Sharon Dawn Bell and husband Todd of Franklinton; grandchildren, Blake Haire of Cary,  Niki Norwood of Butner Joshua Coppock of Oxford, Mattison Coppock of Louisburg, Drew Bell of Wake Forest and Travis Bell of Wake Forest. Mrs. Haire was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 44 years, Gordon Ray Haire.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Zebulon Rehabilitation Center for the care and attention of Mrs. Haire.

Mary Ann Lowery

Mary Ann Lowery, 83, of Youngsville passed away Monday, January 8, 2023.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, January 11, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Bright Funeral Home.  The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 – 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Shirley Spurlin Sherrer

Raleigh

Shirley Spurlin Sherrer was born on October 23 1934, in Opp, Alabama and grew up in Pike County, Alabama with her parents, Bess Shirley Capps and Thomas Arden Capps. After a stroke in early November, she fought the good fight with much grace and dignity and passed peacefully into heaven on January 6, 2024.  She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, James Wylie Sherrer, Sr.

She is survived by 2 sons, Jim Sherrer (and his wife Becky Barbee Sherrer) and Mike Sherrer. She has 8 grandchildren and grandchildren in law: Helen Elizabeth Henson and Jared, Jay (James III) Sherrer and Kristen, Katherine Grace Liggitt and Andrew, Thomas Sherrer and William Sherrer. She has 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Billy Spurlin and his wife, Katie, of Pensacola, Florida and their children, Ivan Whatley and Cliff Spurlin.  Family was the love of her life.

She and James met in Troy, Alabama where he came to attend college. After marriage, they moved to Auburn and she worked in the athletic department while James finished his degree. She was a devoted helpmate and mother through the years living in Griffin, Georgia, moving to Greeneville and Knoxville, Tennesee, then spending two years in Albany, New York before settling in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1973.

She and James were members of Millbrook Baptist Church and then Bay Leaf Baptist Church. She loved her church family and served in various capacities.

A memorial celebration will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday January 10, 2024, at Bay Leaf Baptist Church. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00-11:00.

Donations in her memory to the Bay Leaf Baptist Church Creedmoor Road Building Fund are appreciated.

Johnnie William Young

Raleigh

Johnnie William Young, 93, of Raleigh, NC, died at home of natural causes on January 3, 2024.  He was the son of Charlie C. and Lula Brann Young, born on April 27, 1930 in Greene County, NC.  John was a longtime faithful member of the Farmville Church of God (7th Day).  He was an apprentice with the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, served in the US Army during the Korean War at Walter Reed Army Hospital, then worked in a variety of electronic technician jobs until working for the state of North Carolina for 26 years overseeing the maintenance and calibration of radiation detection instruments with Emergency Management.  John was married to his devoted wife, Jacqueline Morgan Young, on April 5, 1952 and they lived in Raleigh for the last 58 years.  John was known for his kindness and willingness to help others, his ability to fix and work on anything, a special calming presence with young children, a quiet sense of humor, and a steadfast dedication to his family and serving the Lord.  He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Dorothy Padgett and Ann King; brother Roland Young; and granddaughter Sarah Young.  He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, and two children – Alan (Kendra) Young of Wake Forest, and Janet (Dave) Palmer of Spokane, WA, and grandchildren – Bethany, Luke, and Daniel Palmer of Spokane, WA; Jesse and Caleb Young of Wake Forest. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, January 10th in the chapel of Bright Funeral Home following a visitation from 1-2 pm.  The burial will follow at Raleigh Memorial Park on Glenwood Avenue.

Patricia Christine Smith

Youngsville

It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the passing of Patricia Christine Smith, a lovely lady whose legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her. On January 2, 2024, Patricia peacefully departed this world, leaving behind cherished memories and a profound impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Patricia, affectionately known as Patty, was born on July 19, 1932, in Minneapolis, MN. At the young age of 3, her family relocated to Corpus Christi, TX, where she blossomed into the kind and gentle woman we all knew and loved. Although education was important to her leading her to attend Del Mar College and later Trinity University in San Antonio, both on full scholarships, she left to pursue a musical career in opera and musical comedy which showcased her passion for the arts and her unwavering dedication to her dreams.

Following her marriage, she briefly resided in White Plains, NY, and Connecticut before returning to Corpus Christi in 1960, where she devoted herself to nurturing and raising her three beloved daughters. Patricia found fulfillment as a dental office manager, retiring after dedicating herself to her profession. She later settled in Youngsville, NC, spending the last 23 years there.

Her memory lives on through her daughters, Karen Hawkins (Randall), Jamie Vick (Stephen), and Dianne Sestak (Bill). Patty’s legacy extends through her seven grandchildren: Kaitlin and Courtney Hawkins, Ryan (Amanda) and Landon (Courtney) Vick, and Molly, Madison, and Alex Sestak. Additionally, she was a cherished presence in the lives of her four great-grandchildren: Harper and Charlotte Vick, and Myles and Carson Vick.

Patricia was preceded in death by her loving parents, Ruth and Cliff Christine, and her brother Charles. Her spirit of kindness, resilience, and unwavering love will forever be remembered by those she touched.

In honoring Patricia’s life, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Jimmy V Foundation (jimmyfund.org), Sunshine Horses, Inc (sunshinehorses.org), or a charity of your choice, reflecting Patricia’s compassionate and giving nature.

Though Patricia may no longer be with us, her legacy of love, determination, and generosity will continue to inspire and resonate within the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, dear Patty and Mom.

Janet Allen Jones

Wake Forest

Janet Allen Jones, 60, of Wake Forest, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024, peacefully at her home. Born on April 26, 1963, in Durham County to the late Harold Ray Allen, Sr. and Hazel Rebecca Pleasants. Janet dedicated over 16 years of her life to the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier, leaving an indelible mark on her community. Her commitment and hard work made her a respected member of the postal service family.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, Janet’s warmth and kindness extended far beyond her professional life. She was a source of strength and comfort to her family, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were the cornerstones of her relationships.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Charles Jones; children, Bradley Jones of Wake Forest, Crissy Riggan & husband Jimmy of Franklinton and C. Kevin Jones of Wake Forest; grandchildren, Landon Riggan and Garrett Riggan;  brothers, Harold Ray “Buckeye” Allen Jr. & wife Connie of Youngsville, Terry Allen & wife Cathy of Louisburg; sisters, Sandra Allen of Franklinton, Deborah Underwood of Raleigh, Donna Kay Privette of Youngsville, Patricia Gomez & husband Mario of Zebulon; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Janet was preceded in death by her brothers Michael Allen, Wayne Allen, Ray Allen, Phillip Allen, and Baby Boy Allen, as well as her nephew, Bobby Privette.

A funeral service to celebrate Janet’s life will be held at 11 o’clock on Thursday morning, January 11, 2024, at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home. The entombment will be privately held in Pine Forest Memorial Gardens.
