Six area men charged in sting targeting child sex predators and human traffickers

Six suspects have been arrested in Wake Forest as part of a multi-jurisdictional undercover sting operation targeting child sex predators and human traffickers.

The December 5 and 6 joint operation involved undercover officers and agents posing as juveniles and traffickers. The suspects solicited the agents for sex or some other purpose, and meetings were set up in various locations throughout Wake Forest where they were taken into custody.

The WFPD identified the six suspects arrested (photos attached and charges in parentheses): Six

  • Frank Ferlo Jr., age 60, 3308 Beach Plum Court, Raleigh, NC (Solicit by Computer/Appear)
  • Anwar Antuan Overby, age 40, 2 Griffith Place, Durham, NC (Attempted First Degree Statutory Rape)
  • Amadeo Vargas-Varela, age 49, 4004 Virginia St., #4, Raleigh, NC (Solicit Prostitution Minor)
  • Jason Malone Lartigue, age 42, 226 Bridge Point Dr., Rolesville, NC (Solicit Prostitution Minor)
  • Calixto Gomez-Carreno, age 43, 104 Broughton St., Garner, NC (Solicit Prostitution Minor)
  • Esteban Javier Alvarez-Medina, age 47, 1936 Dunfield Dr., Fuquay-Varina, NC (Solicit Prostitution Minor)

Police officials say one of the reasons child sex crimes and human trafficking are on the rise is because predators now have access to their victims via home computers and cell phones. As a result, parents should stay vigilant by keeping track of what their children are doing online and off and by asking questions. Parents can also use apps designed to monitor computer use.

The Wake Forest Police Department wishes to thank the FBI Crimes Against Children and Human Trafficking Unit (CACHTU), Wake County District Attorney’s Office, and Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office for their participation and assistance in the operation.

The above was a Town of Wake Forest press release. On Sunday, Dec. 10, News & Reporter reporter Aaron Sanchez-Guerra added these details:

* Frank Ferlo Jr. posted a $50,000 bond.

* Anwar Antua Overby is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is alleged to have met with an undercover officer he believed to be an underage girl.

* Two of the four men charged with soliciting prostitution with a minor, Calixto Gomez-Carreno and Jason Malone Lartigue have each posted an unreported amount of bond.

  1. The author mentions these arrests in another article (the free library incident) as evidence that the real predators children face are straight men. However, the operation used young females, not young boys, to attract the predators. If the operation had used young boys, you’d get an entirely different outcome.

  2. When this many details are included in a story that is ‘alleging’ crimes, you have to wonder…Where are the stories of the names , addresses, ages, of ALL of the scores 0f crimes that are recorded in Wake Forest in a given period of time?
The DWI’s, fender benders , speeding tickets, registration/insurance citations.
Too much is written about ‘small town charms’.
If you find yourself amongst those who are not well connected…
…you may find yourself a victim of ‘small town harm’.

  3. 4 out of the 6 are probably here illegally. Just open the border gates and let them in. More great policy from our leaders.
