The Wake Forest community is invited to the official unveiling of the new interpretive panels at Taylor Street Park, 416 N. Taylor St., during a special dedication ceremony on Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 4 p.m.
For nearly 160 years, the land where Taylor Street Park and the Alston-Massenburg Center are currently located has served several important purposes. Since 1865, the property has housed a public school, residential duplex, volunteer fire department, public swimming pool, water tower, and basketball court.
The Town of Wake Forest recently installed three interpretative panels at Taylor Street Park to commemorate this significant history and its role in the Northeast Community and Wake Forest.
The December 13 dedication ceremony will feature brief remarks by Mayor Vivian Jones, Northeast Community Coalition Chair Tilda Caudle, Jandy Ammons Foundation Representative Drew Ammons,Wake Forest Historical MuseumManager of Community & Academic LearningDr. Sarah Soleim, Town Manager Kip Padgett, Senior Planner for Historic Preservation Michelle Michael, and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Director Ruben Wall. Light refreshments will follow. In the event of inclement weather, the program will relocate inside the Alston-Massenburg Center.
