This year the Town of Wake Forest residents will elect three town commissioners, and on February 3 Joe Kimray was the first to announce he will seek a commissioner’s seat.
Kimray, who with his wife Mary Kathryn, is part owner of B&W Hardware in Wake Forest, was the 2021 Citizen of the Year. He has just finished two terms on the Wake Forest Planning Board where he was chairman for both terms. He has also been on the board for the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce and has served on several chamber and downtown area boards and committees.
The three commissioners whose terms are expiring this year are former town planner Chad Sary – who also had the most votes in the 2019 election – Jim Dyer and Adam Wright. There have been no indications from the three about their decisions to run for a second term or retire after one term.
The filing period for the commissioner seats is in July with a filing fee of $15, and the nonpartisan election is November 7. The Wake County Board of Elections is in charge of municipal elections.
