This and that

The Gazette may not need to mention this because devoted Wegmans fans have the date memorized, but on Wednesday, May 19, the Wake Forest Wegmans on the N.C. 98 Bypass and Ligon Mill Road will open at 9 a.m.

Is there another grocery store chain about to descend on Wake Forest? Do you have any suggestions now that we have both Publix and Wegmans?

There was something that seemed like a kerfluffle about the Sanford Creek Greenway and an extension of Marshall Farm Street in the last few days. Since the editor could not understand what it was about, she reached out to Jonathan Jacobs, the transportation engineer with the Town of Wake Forest. This is what he explained:

“The existing Sanford Creek Greenway crosses Marshall Farm Street near its current terminus, which crosses using existing ADA ramps. Regency at Heritage is extending Marshall Farm Street over Sanford Creek which involves the construction of a concrete box culvert to convey the existing creek.

“There will not be a bridge and the existing Sanford Creek Greenway will not be changed or modified. Sanford Creek Greenway was designed with the intention of crossing Marshall Farm Street as it does today.”

Good luck in finding gas this week – or maybe next, if the ransomware threat is not resolved. Do you think big operations like the Colonial pipeline (built in 1945!) should really spend some time and money in making sure they are not victims ripe for the plucking? Let’s give a cheer for the infrastructure bill and hope Colonial can also guard against the big spills like the recent one and the deterioration of the pipeline itself. Like the Texas power grid, it does seem pathetic.

  1. I would be willing to give a cheer for the infrastructure bull if it were for infrastructure. Only about 9% is for infrastructure, like roads, bridges, airports, pipelines, and the such. The other 91% is for social programs like day care and social programs. Daycare and social programs may be needed, but they should stand on their own in a separate bull and not mixed with the popular infrastructure bill, which is universally supported. That is a reason why big government is running up such a huge debt, which our grandkids will have to pay off.
