A portion of the Olde Mill Stream section of the Richland Creek Greenway has been closed because a contractor, Gaines & Company Site Development, for Raleigh Water (up until now known as the City of Raleigh Public Utilities Department) is making extensive improvements to the sewer system in that area.
The work is expected to be completed and the greenway reopened in early January 2020.
The work includes the excavation and replacement of the sewer line in existing easements behind homes along Barnford Mill Road, Hallswick Place and Wheddoncross Way. Construction activities also include the installation of temporary above-ground piping systems. The improvements are needed to replace aging sewer infrastructure and increase system capacity to accommodate new development.
Signage and barricades have been posted to inform the public of the greenway closure. Officials strongly urge residents to obey the posted signage and avoid the construction site.
