The Wake Forest American Legion members will hold a traditional Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday, May 27, at the Wake Forest Veterans Memorial at 1234 Heritage Club Avenue.
In addition, on Saturday, May 25, members of all Wake Forest veterans organizations will place American flags on the graves of veterans in 17 local cemeteries – and everyone is invited to join them.
If you can help place the 2,000-plus flags, show up between 8 and 9 a.m. Saturday at the American Legion Post 187 at 225 East Holding Avenue to get your assignments and directions to the cemeteries. “If enough people assist in this effort, we can have this accomplished in approximately four hours,” Rich Heroux said. You reward will be coffee and doughnuts and the gratification of helping to honor the veterans of our wars.
On Monday there will be speakers from Wake Forest veterans and civic organizations along with the singin of patriotic songs. The Wake Forest High School JROTC will post the colors.
Limited seating and parking will be available as well as covered seating for the elderly. There are several signs in and near Wake Forest to direct guests to the memorial, which is just off Heritage Lake Road.
