Free women’s self-defense class offered

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will offer a free self-defense class for women Wednesday, May 22, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road.

Instructors from Krav Maga Raleigh will teach participating women a variety of techniques to avoid danger and defend themselves if necessary. Krav Maga is a no-nonsense system that focuses on the most practical and instinctive methods to get you out of harm’s way.

Attendees will be required to sign a waiver, so anyone planning to attend should arrive 10-15 minutes early.

Participants are encouraged to wear workout clothes and athletic shoes – but no jewelry – and bring water.

The Women’s Self-Defense Class is being offered as part of the “May Month of Fitness.” Free and open to area residents of all ages, the fitness series consists of Camp Gladiator on Mondays, Yoga on Tuesdays and Zumba on Wednesdays – except for the May 22 Women’s Self-Defense Class. Each is offered on their respective nights from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Joyner Park.
