Statue vandalized

For the second year, the Wake Forest Public Art Commission has installed seven statues in prominent areas around town.

Recently, probably on Nov. 18, vandals with a heavy truck or crowbars toppled and damaged the statue – Accelerator by Ray Catz – at the intersection of Elm Avenue and South Taylor Street within a thousand yards or so of the Wake Forest Police Station.

Communications & Public Affairs Director Bill Crabtree said the case has been “inactivated” because of the lack of leads.

Catz may return to repair the statue or it may be done by town personnel.

  1. I think this sculpture died of natural causes: the wind. It was only held in place with one weld and one bolt: the (aluminum) bolt was only caught by a couple threads and was stripped; the weld lacked good adherence.
