First Powerhouse Row building receives permit

Only 26 permits for single-family homes issued

Maybe it was the heat – or maybe local builders have so many single-family permits stockpiled that they do not have enough crews to build them all. Whatever the case, the town issued only 26 permits for single-family homes.

The town issued the permit for the first Powerhouse Row building at 414 South White Street in the empty lot which formerly was the parking lot for the express bus service to Raleigh and the home bus stop for the loop bus through Wake Forest and Wakefield.

That Powerhouse Row building will have three stories with five retail and restaurant spaces on the first floor and 18 to 20 apartments on the second and third floors. The building will be brick with cornices and flat roofs, echoing the existing South White buildings but with modern touches such as balconies. The town estimates the total Powerhouse Row investment with two buildings at $13 million dollars.

Barker Construction Group is the contractor for the construction and paid $30,664 in fees for the 31,400-square-foot structure which is estimated to add $4.5 million to the tax base.

Potter Construction Services was issued a permit for the new Bank of America at 919 Gateway Commons Circle. The company paid $18,977.50 in fees for a 3,915-square-foot building estimated to add $2.4 to the tax base.

There was a demolition permit issued to Triad Earthworks to raze the three-story house at 1704 South Main Street where an 8,000-square-foot commercial building is planned. The fee was $65.

Inspectors completed fit-ups and pre-occupancy inspections for Veronica’s Doggie Delights at 2008 South Main Street; Well Bean at 4154 Shearon Farms Avenue; Fed-Ex (inside Walmart) at 2114 South Main Street; Nuangels Home Care LLC at 10520 Ligon Mill Road; Prime Mortgage Lending at 1780 Heritage Center Drive; Alpha Management Community Services at 1772 Heritage Center Drive; and Alexander Heating & Air Conditioning at 5107 Unicon Drive.
