Brief Bits

Once again recent rains lasting days have hampered work on the new Holding Park Aquatic Center, but Monday, Aug. 6, Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Director Ruben Wall was able to report, “Concrete trucks were on site this morning at 7:45 a.m.

“The goal is to complete the deck this week. Once the deck is complete they can start installing the plaster. After the plaster is installed they will start filling the pools. The plaster has to go through a curing process once the water is added and balanced.

“We still do not have a definitive completion date but the department is making preparations to do some type of event this season,” Ruben said, adding he will provide updates as he has more information.

As of Tuesday afternoon there had been no new sightings of a dark horse a greenway user reported seeing near Heritage High School late Saturday afternoon. Police officers went to the scene and searched but could not find the animal that may be a run-away horse.

Do watch for the horse, particularly when driving on Forestville or other roads near the high school. If you see it, call the Wake Forest Police Department at 919-554-6150.

If you have children or grandchildren in school, now, while traditional schools are in summer recess, is a great time to send their teachers some money for school supplies and call or write your state representatives. Tell them to reinstate the popular tax-free weekend parents and teachers used to buy school supplies. Also tell them they need to fully fund school supplies and textbooks. The state is woefully deficient in both.

Finally, Tuesday people in the audience in the town board meeting chamber on the second floor in town hall were again complaining that they could not hear the proceedings in what is a small room. Earphones are available, but you have to request them in advance. It was only recently that the town managed to provide podium microphones suitable for adults; maybe this other problem can be addressed now.
