5K Freedom Run set for June 21

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 187 in Wake Forest will sponsor the 2014 5K Freedom Run on Saturday, June 21, with a theme of “Honoring Our World War II Veterans.”

The proceeds from the race will support Military Missions in Action, a North Carolina organization that assists veterans with disabilities as well as members of the Armed Forces and their families, and the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund, which ensures a higher education for children whose parents have been killed while serving our country.

Competitive and recreational runners and walkers will use a USATF certified course beginning and ending at the American Legion Post at 225 East Holding Avenue with prizes for the top finishers. The race will have electronic BibTag timing. Registration is $25 before June 7 and $30 thereafter. The race will begin at 8 a.m. with check-in starting at 7 a.m.
