Ligon Mill Road re-opens Thursday

***UPDATE – According to Fred Smith Co., the contractor working on the Ligon Mill Road realignment, Ligon Mill Road will reopen at 6 a.m. Thursday, April 10. The delayed reopening is due to road striping equipment issues and a need for more time to allow the bridge sealant to set. *** NC Department of Transportation officials say the portion of Ligon Mill Road from Woodrose Lane to Burlington Mills Road that has been closed since mid-March will reopen Wednesday morning, April 9. The road closure was necessary to allow crews to realign Ligon Mill Road from the existing bridge that spans Smith Creek to a new replacement bridge. Built in 1967 to span Smith Creek, the existing bridge had to be replaced due to the deterioration of bridge components that could no longer be addressed by maintenance. Love Tribe kicks off FNOW

Weather permitting, Love Tribe will kick off the 2025 Friday Night on White concert series on Friday, April 11. The free outdoor concert will take place from 6-9 p.m. along South White Street in downtown Wake Forest. Food & Refreshments Food and refreshments will be available for purchase at several downtown restaurants. A variety of food and dessert trucks will also be on site in the Depot Parking Lot, 110 S. White St., and along East Owen Avenue. STEM Saturday to draw parents, students

The Wake Forest Technology Advisory Board is inviting local elementary, middle, and high school students and their families to attend this year’s Wake Forest STEM Saturday on Saturday, April 12. Presented by the Wireless Research Center, this free family networking event is scheduled from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Joyner Park Community Center, 701 Harris Road. Celebrating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, STEM Saturday will expose students in grades K-12 to a variety of STEM career options, while featuring STEM-related exhibits, demonstrations, and hands-on learning activities. Free outdoor fitness at Joyner in May

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department will offer a free outdoor fitness series four nights a week in May at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Free and open to area residents of all ages, May Month of Fitness will consist of the following weekly classes:  ·         Mondays – Women’s Self Defense ·         Tuesdays – Cynergy Fit ·         Wednesdays – Yoga ·         Thursdays – Zumba  All classes are free and require no registration. Each will be offered on its respective night from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Joyner Park Amphitheater. Build a Popsicle House, win a prize

The Inspections Department is hosting a Popsicle Stick House-Building Contest for three age categories as part of this year’s Building Safety Month Kick-Off.  The kick-off event is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at Town & Country Hardware, 910 Gateway Commons Circle. Young people ages 7 and under, 8-9, and 10-11 are invited to build a house using popsicle sticks. Design of the house, including painting and decorations, is left up to each contestant. Entries will be judged on creativity, imagination, quality, and workmanship. Flag-Raising honors Bobby Jean Kemble

The Town of Wake Forest and several local veterans’ organizations will resume their monthly flag-raising ceremonies in Town Hall’s Centennial Plaza on Monday, April 14, at 11 a.m. The service was originally scheduled for Monday, April 7, but has been rescheduled due to the threat of inclement weather. The 59th Wake Forest Memorial Flag-Raising Ceremony will honor Bobby Gene Kemple, who served our nation in the US Marine Corps. Members of Kemple’s family have been invited to participate in the ceremony, which will include patriotic songs, special remarks, a memorial wreath laying, and the ceremonial flag-raising. During the service, the Wake Forest Fire Department Honor Guard will raise the American flag and the US Marine Corps service flag in recognition of the military branch in which Kemple served. Woman’s Club names scholarship winner

The Wake Forest Woman’s Club is pleased to recognize Makayla Loop as the recipient of its 2025 Continuing Education Scholarship for demonstrating outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service. Loop, a graduating senior from Wake Forest High School, plans to attend NC State in the fall and major in Mechanical Engineering. Club members hosted Loop and her family at their April general club meeting and the $2,000.00 scholarship presentation. Firefighters fry fish Friday, April 25

The Wake Forest Fire Department Annual Fish Fry is Friday, April 25, from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. – or until all the fish plates are sold – at Fire Station #1, 420 Elm Ave. Plates are $10 each and will include generous portions of fried flounder, boiled potatoes, coleslaw, and hush puppies. Cash, check, and credit card accepted. Fish fry proceeds will benefit the Wake Forest Firefighters Foundation. No preorders will be accepted but eat-in and drive thru take-out options will be available. Desserts will be sold separately for guests dining inside. Delivery service is available for orders of 15 plates or more. A special part of this year’s Fish Fry will be a food drive to benefit the Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry. Taylor Street Sprayground opens April 19

Taylor Street Park Sprayground, 416 N.
