Happy New Year

To all the Gazette readers, I am happy to say that I am resuming the publication of the Wake Forest Gazette after a six-month pause because of numb fingers on my right hand after shoulder surgery. Thank-you to all who inquired about my recovery and the fate of the Gazette. I appreciated every one, including the cop who called to my husband when he was working in the yard: “How’s Carol’s hand?” Now I need to get to work to try to live up to your expectations of a weekly local newspaper. WF’s Social District goes dry for now

Tuesday night three Wake Forest town commissioners turned off the spigots for the beer and liquor that could be flowing in the proposed downtown social district by voting against approving the district. Commissioners Jim Dyer, Nick Sliwinski and Chad Sary voted no on Commissioner Adam’s Wright motion to approve the district while Commissioner Keith Shackleford and Wright voted for it. But on Wednesday, Wright issued a statement reflecting his belief the social district is something town business owners want. “I wouldn’t label this dead just yet. I am still going to work this project as it is something that a lot of our downtown businesses want – as demonstrated by the downtown business alliance sending a letter of approval,” Wright wrote. He continued, “Due to timing with FNOW planning, we may have to take it up later this year. So, I would presume we will talk a lot about it

Candidate alert! Town board election this year

The editor suspects there are already men and women working to raise the financial and other support for a campaign for a Wake Forest Board of Commissioners seat and some others who may start to consider such a campaign. In 2023 town voters will elect three commissioners, either returning the current officeholders Jim Dyer, Chad Sary and Adam Wright for another term or ousting one, two or three in favor of new faces. The Gazette has not asked the current three commissioners whether they intend to run for another term or retire, and no name has popped up as a potential candidate. When potential candidates decide, they must file at the Wake County Board of Elections by filling out several forms and paying a $15 fee during the filing period that runs from noon on Friday, July 7, to noon on Friday, July 14. Election Day is November 7 for

The developer is pushing for a public hearing soon and it could take place in January or February. The owner is Dry Timber LLC, an E. Carroll Joyner business, although

Mild symptoms? Don’t go to the ER

With a surge in cases of the flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19 as we head into an eventful-holiday weekend, Wake County encourages those with mild symptoms, or other non-serious illnesses, to avoid unnecessary utilization of emergency care services if possible, and to get vaccinated or boosted if they have not already done so.
