Rocket League tournament set for April 23

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will host an online esports gaming tournament featuring “Rocket League” on Saturday, April 23. Open to players ages 10 and older, the online tournament is free to play and will be live streamed on Twitch.tv. Registration is open through Wednesday, April 20, at https://wakeforestnc.recdesk.com/Community/Home. Teams comprised of three players each will compete in what is scheduled to be a single-day tournament to be run in conjunction with “Bull City Gaming.” In the event more than 32 teams register, the tournament will expand to two days with the qualifying rounds taking place on April 23 and the top eight teams battling it out in the finals on Sunday, April 24. Register now for National Trails Day 5K/3K walk/run

The Recreation Advisory Board will host a family-friendly 5K/3K walk/run as part of National Trails Day on Saturday, June 4, at E. Carroll Joyner Park, 701 Harris Road. Check-in on the day of the event starts at 7 a.m., and the race begins at 8 a.m. Online registration is available at www.wakeforestnc.gov/meetings-events/national-trails-day-5k. The entry fee for the 5K is $25 before March 31; $30 from April 1-May 14; $35 from May 15-June 2; and $40 the day before and day of the race. The entry fee for the 3K is $20 before March 31; $25 April 1-May 14; $30 May 15-June 2; and $35 the day before and day of the race. ‘Legally Blonde’ playing at WFHS for six days

The award-winning Theatre Department at Wake Forest High School will present Legally Blonde – The Musical for six days and nights in March and April. RenCen welcomes ‘Sons of Mystro’ March 24

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre at 405 South Brooks Street will welcome the “Sons of Mystro” on Thursday, March 24, at 7 p.m. Born in South Florida to a Jamaican father and Barbadian mother, brothers Malcolm and Umoja learned to play violin through South Florida’s public school system and later attended Dillard High School for the Performing Arts. Together, they form the “Sons of Mystro.” Accompanied by a DJ and a drummer, the dynamic duo play over 10 different genres of popular music, using the violin instead of their voices to express a song’s lyrics. Lions Club offers $1,000 tech school scholarship

The Wake Forest Lions Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship for Wake Forest High School or Rolesville High School seniors who intend to attend a two-year technical college. The Scholarship has also been extended to include graduating seniors from Heritage High School. Applications are available at all three of the High Schools from Student Services. The deadline for seniors to turn in their applications is April 7, 2022. Interviews with the eligible students will be held the week of April 25-29. Interested students should contact their respective school counselors for more information and applications. #
