Pancake breakfast served every second Sunday

The next monthly American Legion Post 187 famous Pancake Breakfast will be served on Sunday, November 14, 2021 from 8 to 12 a.m. The breakfast is presented every second Sunday of every month at the American Legion Hall, 225 East Holding Avenue, Wake Forest, NC., (Across the street from the Wake Forest Post Office). The breakfast offers a menu of pancakes, several types of sausage (mild and spicy), coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and orange juice. The aspect that has made the offering unique is that customers can eat as much as they care to for one low price. Adults eat for $6.00 per person – Children under 12 for $1.00 and children under 7 eat free. The proceeds from the breakfast are used to assist rehabilitating veterans. #

League of Legends tournament on Nov. 13

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will host an online eSports gaming tournament featuring “League of Legends” on Saturday, Nov. 13. Open to players ages 16 and older, the “Battle in the Forest” will be played online and live streamed on Twitch.tv. Registration is open through Wednesday, Nov. 10, at https://bit.ly/BattleintheForest. The cost is $5 per player. Teams comprised of five players each will compete in the tournament which will run in conjunction with “Bull City Gaming.” The top three teams in the Battle in the Forest will receive a variety of prizes and awards, including scholarships from Barton College Esports. League of Legends is an online battle arena esports game produced by Riot Games. Since its initial release date in October 2009, it has been one of the most popular eSports games worldwide. Help the WFPD’s annual Turkey Drive before Nov. 20

The Wake Forest Police Department is accepting monetary donations through Saturday, Nov. 20, as part of its 15th Annual Turkey Drive. Area residents can support this worthy cause by submitting online donations via PayPal at http://bit.ly/WFPDTurkeyDrive. Cash and checks written to the Wake Forest Police Department are also accepted. Anyone wishing to contribute cash or check to this year’s Turkey Drive should contact Officer K. Abshire at kabshire@wakeforestnc.gov. Officials are considering several options for safely distributing the turkeys this year. Additional information will be provided once plans are finalized. The WFPD organized its first Turkey Drive in 2007. Since then, the department has distributed nearly 10,000 turkeys to needy families in our area, including over 800 last year. #

News from the chamber

A few more volunteers are needed for the youth financial literacy event. It takes a village (of volunteers) to run the Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce’s Foundation Reality of Money financial literacy events for middle and high school students. We have two events coming up on November 9 and 10, and we still need a few more volunteers! Anyone is eligible to participate, including those in the banking industry – this is a change from before. Training is provided, and you will be doing a good deed! These events teach more than 600 youth how money works, how to manage credit and debt, and how to save and invest. Senior center this week

There are two new craft classes at the Northern Wake Senior Center on East Holding Avenue – Carolyn Zahnow will show how you can make beautiful glycerine soaps. It will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, and the cost is $15 (cash, please). You will take home the equivalent of two bars of soap as well as instructions and a resources sheet. The class size is limited to 12. — Nancy Foss will show you how to create beautiful decorated glasses with Mandala dotting. This will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
