Crush headlines only 2021 Friday Night on White

Popular party band Crush will headline the one and only Friday Night on White (FNOW) of the year on Friday, Sept. 10. The free outdoor concert is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. along South White Street in historic downtown Wake Forest. COVID-19 forced the cancellation of FNOW in 2020 and all but the September 10 concert in 2021. But now that all pandemic-related capacity restrictions have been lifted, the Town of Wake Forest is pleased to present one of our community’s most popular outdoor events headlined by one of the southeast’s finest live bands. The Town expects to offer a full slate of FNOW concerts in 2022. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase during the September 10 FNOW at several downtown restaurants. Plus, the following food and dessert trucks will be on site: Bo’s Kitchen, Charlie’s on Wheels, Cousins Maine Lobster, Crumbstruction, Goodberry’s Frozen Custard, Hale Yeah Kitchen, Kona Ice,

Briner unveils great changes in Wake Forest Plaza

On Aug. 28, back in 2003 This is the third in what is hoped is a regular feature about Wake Forest in 2003 when the Wake Forest Gazette began publication. When he purchased the 25-year-old Wake Forest Plaza last fall, Raleigh developer Craig Briner said the changes he planned would be “evolutionary, not revolutionary.” Wrong. The plans Briner described to a small crowd at the Wake Forest Chamber of Commerce Tuesday afternoon will revolutionize 20 acres in the heart of the town’s commercial district. Briner and Raleigh architect Dan Huffman envision buildings two, three and four stories high circling a three-level parking deck. The buildings would house stores and perhaps offices in the first story with apartments and condominiums above. The largest, signature building at the corner of South White and East Elm – now the site of D&B auto sales – would be topped with a restaurant. “You could

DOT asks help in cleaning up roadside litter

The N.C. Department of Transportation needs volunteers to help clean up trash along roads during the Adopt-A-Highway Fall Litter Sweep from Sept. 11-25. Each April and September, NCDOT asks volunteers to help remove litter from roadsides. Volunteers from local businesses, schools, nonprofits, churches, municipalities, law enforcement and community groups play an important role in keeping North Carolina’s roads clean. Joining this effort is easier than ever before as volunteers can now sign up by way of a convenient online form. “Since this year began, NCDOT and our partner organizations have picked up more than eight and a half million pounds of litter,” said State Roadside Engineer David Harris. “We need everyone’s help to keep that momentum. The Litter Sweep is a great opportunity to get outdoors with family and friends and work alongside NCDOT to ensure North Carolina remains a beautiful place to live and work.” Volunteers can request clean-up supplies

GCI Residential pulled 16 permits for the Legacy Heritage at the intersections of Friendship Chapel Road, Heritage Lake Road and the N.C. 98 Bypass. There will be 308 apartment units. Bag the trash, not the recyclables

The Public Works Department is reminding residents to bag their trash, but not their recyclables. Officials say all trash should be bagged before being placed in the rollout cart to prevent flyaway litter as the trash cart is emptied into the trash truck. On the other hand, recyclables should not be bagged or bundled before being placed in the recycling cart. Recyclables should be dropped loosely into the cart which helps when the items are being sorted at the recycling facility. Finally, officials encourage residents to reference the “Waste Wizard” whenever they are uncertain as to whether an item is recyclable. Available on the Town website and as a function of the Town app, the Waste Wizard allows users to type in key words related to disposable household materials and receive valuable disposal tips. From aluminum cans and phone books to popcorn bags and plastic beverage bottles, the search tool helps residents determine
