Loop buses add six stops on Heritage Lake Road

Beginning the week of September 14, the Wake Forest Loop, a fare-free bus service for residents traveling within Wake Forest and a portion of Wakefield, will expand its route to include six new all-day stops along Heritage Lake Road. The first pair of stops will be located near Gateway Commons, while the next two will be situated at opposite corners of the Heritage Lake Road/Heritage Club Avenue intersection. The final two stops will be located at the intersection of Heritage Lake Road and Rogers Road. The expanded service into Heritage will become part of the Wake Forest Loop’s permanent route effectively introducing all-day service into an area that had previously enjoyed mid-day service only. As a result of the expanded route, current stops along South Main Street/US 1A in front of The Lodge and near Forbes Road will be removed. Restaurants donating to CROP Hunger Walk

Save the Dates, September 17 and 22:  Two local restaurants will donate a percentage of your meal tab to this year’s CROP Hunger Walk, a virtual walk held Sunday, Sept. 27. Papa Murphy’s Take ‘N’ Bake Pizza, located at 11721 Retail Drive #105 will host a share night on September 17 from 1 to 8 p.m. for 25% of all sales.  This is a carry-out-only restaurant. It will not be necessary to show a coupon or to speak up about the event when ordering or paying.   Milton’s Pizza and Pasta, located in the Wakefield Commons, will host a share night on Sept. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. for either dine inside, dine outside, or carry out.  Customers will need to mention they are supporting CROP Hunger Walk. This year’s walking events will have do-it-yourself themes, with the individuals and teams having the option to plan their own routes.

Changes in October for trash, recycling, yard waste

The Town of Wake Forest and Republic Services have coordinated trash, recycling and yard waste collection re-routes that beginning Monday, Oct. 5, will shift collection days for many residents in the following neighborhoods:   Adams Ridge Bowling Green Cardinal Hills Crenshaw Hall Crenshaw Manor Deacons Ridge Downtown Wake Forest Edgeford Parks Everly Forest Mill Green Acres Heath Ridge Village Heritage Holding Village Home Garden Homestead at heritage Mangum North Hampton Oakwood Estates Retreat at Renaissance Richland Hills Stonegate Not every street in these neighborhoods will be impacted. Affected residents will receive a postcard in the mail and decal on their rollout trash cart that reads “Your Solid Waste Service Day is Changing.” The information pieces will identify the resident’s new trash, recycling and yard waste collection days. Wake Forest Historical Museum now open

Visitors will be able to see the Smithsonian traveling exhibit The Wake Forest Historical Museum, closed for six months, opened for visitors, 10 at a time, on Sept. 15. The museum has been short-staffed since Assistant Director Jennifer Smart left, the remaining staff is just unpacking and installing Water/Ways, the Smithsonian traveling exhibit which will remain until Oct. 10, and the museum also needs a thorough cleaning. Executive Director Ed Morris said that the museum will be open its usual hours: Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. but closed from 12 to 1 p.m. for lunch. It is also open Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 p.m. The museum will continue its virtual book club and talks by experts that will explore the cultural, social and spiritual significance of water in our community. The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor two Get Out The Vote Postcard Socials in the outdoor patio on Friday, Sept. 18, and Saturday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to noon each day. You must sign up in advance to promote proper social distancing. Sponsored by the chamber’s Women’s Business Alliance and the Knightdale-Wake Forest Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., the socials are a way for community women to stop by to write personal notes encouraging women to vote this year.
