Cooper extends Phase 2, requires masks

On Wednesday, June 24, Governor Roy Cooper responded to the recent uptick in coronavirus cases, number of hospitalizations because of COVID-19 and high percentage (10 percent or more) of cases found by testing by extending Phase Two until July 17. He also ordered the mandatory wearing of masks statewide. Cooper moved the state into Phase Two on May 22, which was to expire on Friday. This is the first time he has ordered mandatory wearing of masks while outdoors or in public places. The mask order does not apply to children under 11, those with some medical conditions and those exercising outdoors away from others. “I urge everyone to be a leader in wearing face coverings,” Cooper said. “I encourage businesses to be strong in enforcing it. Slowing the spread helps our economy, and these face coverings do that.” “North Carolina has been careful in lifting COVID restrictions. And it’s

News from Tri-Area

Hello Volunteers and Supporters, I wanted to share with you the sentiments expressed by a recent first-time client. I came to Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry today for my parents and as luck would have it, Leslie, whom I know from the Stop Hunger Feed Hope events, handled our sign-up. I felt very uneasy about picking up their food, as you know, but the volunteers put me at ease. Rick, who was in the pantry yesterday when we were there making a donation said hello, and wasn’t I just here yesterday with a big smile! Volunteer Bruce, who I also know from my church was the one who placed the food in my car. Again, another friendly face that made me feel welcomed. The best part is this:  I packed an incredible amount of food into my wheeled cart to bring up to my parents’ apartment. I explained that I had
