Tickets still available for ‘Steel Magnolias’

Forest Moon Theater will present “Steel Magnolias” Friday through Sunday 27 to 29, at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. Showtime Friday and Saturday is 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday showtime is 3 p.m. Written by Robert Harling, this heartwarming comedy-drama explores the special bond a group of women share in a small southern Louisiana community, and how they cope with the death of one of their own. As time passes, the women encounter tragedy and good fortune. Although their friendships are strained, in the end they find themselves growing stronger and closer. Advance tickets are $15 plus tax for adults and $13 plus tax for students and seniors. These prices reflect a savings of $3 per adult and student/senior on “day of” admission tickets. Hip Pocket kicks off Rockin’ the Forest Oct. 11

Civitans selling pecans, other nuts

The Wake Forest Civitan Club is selling its 16-ounce bags of “fresh off the tree” shelled pecans for $12 per bag. Specialty “gift-bagged” nuts such as pecan logs, chocolate covered pecans, and cashews, just to name a few, are also available. ‘Homes for Dogs’ event this Saturday

On Saturday September 28, 2019, Coldwell Banker Advantage and Pawfect Match, are joining hundreds of Coldwell Banker offices and animal shelters around the country for the Coldwell Banker “Homes for Dogs” National Adoption Weekend. At the event, we will have the Pawfect Match Rescue, Our Mascot dog named “Bubba,”  music,  games and free hot dogs to help promote this great adoption day. Koinonia selling mums, pumpkins, wreaths

The Koinonia Foundation of Wake Forest is selling locally grown pumpkins, gourds, mums, hay bales and holiday wreaths for fall and Christmas in its annual Pumpkin Patch held on the lawn of the Wake Forest Museum at 414 North Main Street. The hours are Wednesday, Sept. 25, to Sunday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 29 from 12 to 4 p.m. Becky Parsons, Koinonia board president, says 100 percent of the money raised will go toward helping neighbors in crisis. “We give emergency benevolent, one-time assistance directly to individuals who struggle with lack of shelter, food, clothing, unmanageable utility bills, medical assistance payments and other family needs,” said Parsons. Besides the annual Pumpkin Patch, the Koinonia Foundation raises money annually during its Koinonia Cares Charity Auction planned for March 7, 2020. Loose leaf collection begins Oct. 7

The Town of Wake Forest’s annual loose leaf collection program will begin Monday, Oct. 7, and continue through early March 2020. Residents are reminded that this year the Town will provide bi-monthly loose leaf collection service which calls for crews to service each town street twice each month. When preparing leaves for collections, residents are urged to adhere to the following guidelines: *  Rake leaves into piles behind the curb, so they do not interfere with traffic or drainage. *  Do not mix sticks, rocks, pine cones, limbs or other debris with loose leaves. The Town’s vacuum equipment is only designed to pick up loose leaves. Your cooperation will help prevent mechanical breakdowns and collection delays. *  Place limbs and brush behind the curb in a pile separate from leaves. WFPD announces its 13th annual Turkey Drive

The Wake Forest Police Department is now accepting monetary donations through Saturday, Nov. 23, as part of its 13th Annual Turkey Drive. Area residents can support this worthy cause by submitting online donations via PayPal at http://bit.ly/2019TurkeyDrive. First Fruits Farm hosts festival

Today, Jason Brown and his wife Tay, owners of First Fruits Farm, a farm with a mission to aid hunger relief in eastern North Carolina, announced two significant milestones; this year the farm celebrates five years of serving the community as well as breaks the one million pound mark for food donated. Founded in 2012 by Jason, a former NFL Offensive Linemen, First Fruits Farm’s first harvest was in 2014. During that year, 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes and 10,000 pounds of cucumbers were donated to organizations such as the Interfaith Food Shuttle, the Society of St. Andrews, and the Food Bank of Eastern North Carolina. 2019 marks five years of the farm’s efforts to aid hunger relief in North Carolina, and the program has expanded its footprint and partnerships.
