Help shape the future of Flaherty Dog Park

The Recreation Advisory Board will host two public meetings in July and conduct an online survey to solicit public input about renovations to Flaherty Dog Park. “Picture Flaherty Dog Park” is the name given to the town’s approach to inviting residents to share their ideas about the park’s future. As part of the initiative, the Recreation Advisory Board will host public meetings at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, and Thursday, July 25, at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 South Brooks Street. Each session will begin with a brief presentation, followed by an open forum discussion where attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and share suggestions. Movies help renew memories for dementia sufferers

The Wake Forest Renaissance Centre and SING Wake Forest are partnering to host a special Memory Café on Sunday, July 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. entitled “Renewing Memories Through Movies.” As part of the 2019 Understanding Dementia Series, the program will feature a screening of the 1952 MGM musical classic “Singing in the Rain” starring Gene Kelly, Donald O’Connor and Debbie Reynolds. Attendees will also be treated to an ice cream float of their choice and other movie treats. Admission is free and all ages welcome for this family event. Youth Empowerment Workshop on Aug. 17

The Wake Forest Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department will sponsor a Youth Empowerment Workshop for young men and women ages 12 through 17 on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alston-Massenburg Center at 416 North Taylor Street. The workshop is designed to help young men and women learn skills and strategies to make a positive difference in their lives and neighborhoods. Discussion will be geared towards empowering students to help create an inclusive and connected community. The session will also include a school supplies giveaway and raffle. The featured speaker will be former NC State football player and current Student Diversity Coordinator Joseph Johnson. The event is free, and a continental breakfast will be provided. Seats available for active shooter class

The Wake Forest Police Department will sponsor a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) class on Wednesday, July 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. Class size is limited to the first 100 people to register.
