“Southern Soul” performing artist Rissi Palmer will take to the stage at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre for the Arts Saturday, May 11, at 7:30 p.m. Advance tickets are on sale for $15 (plus tax) and can be purchased online with a Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover credit card at www.wakeforestrencen.org/tickets-events<http://www.wakeforestrencen.org/tickets-events>. Super Duper Duck Splash on June 15

More than 5,000 rubber ducks will race to the finish line in the Wakefield Rotary Club’s first Super Duper Duck Splash on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the WRAL Soccer Park, Parking Lot 5, 7700 Perry Creek Road, Raleigh. By adopting ducks in the Super Duper Duck Splash fundraiser, the public has the chance to win $1500, $1000 or $750 if their duck is the first, second or third to cross the finish line. Other prizes will also be given away. Ducks can be adopted for as little as $5 by visiting www.NCDuckSplash.com Other activities taking place during the June 15 Duck Splash include family games, bouncy house, food trucks, sponsor booths and giveaways. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit four local youth-focused non-profits who the club calls their Duck Buddies—Note in the Pocket, Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club, SAFEchild and North Carolina Football Club Youth. It will return on Saturday, May 11, in the employee parking lot along South Taylor Street behind Wake Forest Town Hall. Local farmers and artisans will have meats, seasonal vegetables, bread, baked good and other local wares for sale. Eleora Davasha Toomey Wake Forest Eleora Devasha Toomey passed into God’s Glory on April 26th, 2019. She led an extraordinary life by any definition. She pulled entire groups of people together to fight for a common goal. She weaved community by bringing together people that would have never met without her presence. Though she was non-verbal if you took the time to learn her language she spoke so loudly and clearly and with such spirit that all one could do was smile, laugh and nod. Her bright smile would light up a room, in that old cliché, but could also send your spirit soaring when you least expected it. Her laugh was infectious, but it was so much so that one would find oneself not only laughing along, but laughing to the point of joyous tears.
