Transportation plan meeting set for May 16

The Town of Wake Forest will host a Comprehensive Transportation Plan public information meeting on Thursday, May 16, from 4-7 p.m. at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St. The meeting will have an informal, open house-style format, so there will not be a formal presentation. Attendees may arrive any time between 4 and 7 p.m. to share comments and ask questions. During the session, organizers will review ideas and opinions shared during the first CTP public meeting on topics such as safety, intersections, roadway congestion, technology, driving, walking, biking and transit. Light refreshments, along with soft drinks and water, will be available. Community input is the cornerstone of the Comprehensive Transportation Plan, which will address all modes of transportation, including driving, walking, biking and transit. WFPD hosts recruitment fair May 17

The Wake Forest Police Department will host a Recruitment Fair for sworn law enforcement officers and NC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) graduates Friday, May 17, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will take place both inside and outside the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St. Designed to highlight the benefits of working for the Town of Wake Forest and specifically with the Wake Forest Police Department (WFPD), the occasion will include vehicle and equipment displays and provide information about job opportunities and career development. The recruitment fair will also offer attendees the opportunity to interact with members of the WFPD and the Town’s Human Resources Department. Another active shooter class scheduled

The Wake Forest Police Department has scheduled a Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) class on Thursday, April 25, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The session will take place inside the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. ‘Music Man Jr.’ on stage at Heritage Middle this weekend

Students at Heritage Middle School will perform the musical “The Music Man Jr”. from April 10 to 12 at 6 p.m. in the Heritage Middle School Auditorium. This family-friendly performance features an all-student cast and is directed by Ms. Austin Royal with musical direction by Mrs. Elsie Shuler and choreography by Mrs. Melissa Christians. The original 1957 Broadway production of “The Music Man” won five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and ran for 1,375 performances. The show’s success led to revivals, including a long-running 2000 Broadway revival, a popular 1962 film adaptation, and a 2003 television adaptation. The Heritage Middle School’s version will contain such memorable songs as “Seventy-Six Trombones”  and “Shipoopi.” Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased at the Heritage Middle School main office.

Rise Against Hunger by packing meals

The Northern Community Food Security Team is partnering with Rise Against Hunger to host a meal-packing event Saturday, April 13, at the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club, 325 S. Wingate St. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to pack 55,000 meals that will be delivered to areas ravaged by natural disasters and sent to feed school children in such places as Haiti, the Philippines and Sub-Saharan Africa. Check-in will begin at noon, followed by the packing of meals from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Families, local civic groups and community organizations are especially encouraged to participate. The event will also offer a great opportunity for local students to earn community service hours. Volunteers must be at least six-years-old. The Wake Forest Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation is currently accepting applications for the inaugural class of its Career Readiness Academy. Rising juniors and seniors for the 2019/2020 school year are eligible to apply.
