Free paper-shredding event on April 29

The Town of Wake Forest is hosting its fourth annual paper-shredding event on Monday, April 29. Free and open to the public, “Shred-It” will take place rain or shine in the parking lot of the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre, 405 S. Brooks St., from noon to 6 p.m. – or until the four Shred-it trucks are full. The occasion offers area residents and businesses the opportunity to protect themselves from identity theft and dispose of confidential documents in an environmentally responsible manner. All paper will be shredded on-site, then recycled. Participants are urged to help reduce contamination by removing all non-paper materials in advance, such as plastic binders, plastic folders and metal tabs. Stein, Marshall headline Senior Scam Jam

NC Attorney General Josh Stein and NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall will headline a distinguished panel of presenters at the Seniors at Risk: 21st Century Scam Threats, Preventions and Solutions seminar – also known as Senior Scam Jam – on Tuesday, April 30, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Wake Forest Renaissance Centre. Martha ‘Billie’ Ann Mincey Youngsville Martha “Billie” Ann Mincey, 85, died peacefully in her home on Sunday, March 31, 2019. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilbur and Daisy Slate; her beloved husband, Leslie Mincey; and her daughter, Cheryl Ann Wilson. While living in Wilmington in the early 1960s, Billie was instrumental in organizing the Wilmington Women’s Bowling Association. During that time, she also played a major role in the creation of the Carolina All Star Bowling Association (CASBA), the first women’s scratch tournament organization in North Carolina. Billie moved to Raleigh from Wilmington in 1966. During her years in the Raleigh area, she was instrumental in developing the Raleigh Junior Bowling Association (RJBA). She was active in all areas of the sport she loved. She is survived by her daughters, Donna Leigh Smith, husband Terry, and Sherry Mincey Poole; six loving grandchildren, Trey Wilson, Brook Godwin (Andrew), David Preddy
